luigi bertolotti Posted April 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2007 FINE ! Do they do it only if body goes to Solms for warranty repair (to be excused for the problem) or can they do it as a standard ? If so, at what price ?... or, one can order his M8 with the custom engraving AT NO COST, simply waiting time, paying in advance or so ?
gesper Posted April 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2007 I would be happy if they just fixed my shutter and got my camera back to me. Shipped it overnight to NJ over three weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived in Solms!
Photoskeptic Posted April 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 26, 2007 Way Cool. Fills in that nasty blank space and is historically correct. They should have offered it from the start.
Hans Roggen Posted April 26, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 26, 2007 Seriously now...this is just photoshop, right? Hans

Guest sirvine Posted April 26, 2007 Share #8 Posted April 26, 2007 Yeah...c'mon that looks suspiciously like the M8 on Leica's website.
mboerma Posted April 26, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2007 LOL, this must be photoshop! The serialno does look a bit weird. Next will be a fake rewind crank...
mat_mcdermott Posted April 26, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 26, 2007 Is it me, or does the serial number that's engraved not match the one on the hot shoe? In fact, I just checked and I think it's the same one as the website camera.
Guest sirvine Posted April 26, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 26, 2007 I think the engraved "serial number" is a birthday. Someone's a Gemini.
atufte Posted April 26, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted April 26, 2007 Hehe, you guys are insanely suspicious, and yes this is a PS made one, but i only made it to show Leica what i wanted it to look like, the "serial number" is not a serial number but my name, birthdate, camera model and my location, and all made to simulate the classic MP engraving, just more personal :-)... they charge 220 € for it, but i think that's fair since they have to send the camera to a their own professional engraver since i chose both the classic Leica logo, and the other font (CorpoS) for personal data... if you choose only to engrave your name in their standard font (CorpoS) they charge 180 €, because it's done "in house" So yes it's real, or very soon that is...(They told me it was finished tomorrow and that they would take a picture of it just to make my day, no that's what i call service... :-) Here's the MP engraving that inspired me: Welcome, dear visitor! sdai Posted April 26, 2007 Share #14 Posted April 26, 2007 It's good to know, Alexander ... now if they could make the M8 look exactly like a MP 3 then I'm going to sign up for sure.

eronald Posted April 27, 2007 Share #19 Posted April 27, 2007 Congratulations! Now you can take your Leica into the grave, as you will no more be able to sell it for a reasonable price. Now if he becomes famous it willbe insanely valuable, and otherwise it will be an object for his faily to treasure for generations - only they will wonder what it was for .
