Millberg Posted April 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I need to do something about my storage situation. Today are all my pictures (app 30.000) stored at a portable 1TB USB 3 drive. I use Lightroom on the different computers and need the drive to be portable.. I have a second drive where I duplicate all pictures + a CrashPlan cloud backup (running from one of the computers). The setup works perfect, but I've reached a point where the 1TB needs to be replaced. What are you using? I'm looking at a Thunderbolt enabled Seagate or something similar. It needs to be portable. Thanks in advance Lars

Thanks in advance Lars I keep my Lightroom (LR) library portable too as I do not have a desktop computer and travel frequently (every other week for 7 days at a time) and solely use a MacBook Pro 15". I too have had to keep increasing my hard drive capacity to keep up with my library. My MacBook Pro has a 256gb SSD Drive. I have enough space on it to keep my current LR projects that I'm working on and my LR Catalog. My primary drive I keep my Library on is currently a 1 TB 2.5" drive in a Seagate Backup Plus case that I connect to their Thunderbolt Adapter. I also carry a second drive in a Seagate Backup Plus case that backs up my internal SSD. At home I have a 2 TB Western Digital Passport Ultra I backup my "working" LR Library to. I'm about to fill my 1 TB drive so I will be looking at a bare 2 TB drive to put in my Seagate enclosure. I have also considered Mosaic Online Photo Backup. sanyasi Posted April 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 21, 2014 I purchase LaCie drives--4TB for around $350 US. I think they make one drive that is 6TB. So far, they have worked fine. I sync them with Synkit, an app I downloaded from the Apple App store. I also keep a backup offsite and large file formats jpgs of my keepers online. terrycym Posted April 21, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 21, 2014 How about one of these... Western Digital 4TB My Book Live Duo External Hard Drive (WDBVHT0040JCH) - Wex Photographic or another option... Western Digital Europe Online Store - Product Information They do RAID1 so if one drive goes, you still have the other one as a backup
kdriceman Posted April 21, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2014 I'm using a Lacie, 2TB Thunderbolt portable drive... Although I never take it anywhere. It's been great. Thunderbolt speed is important IMO. And back it up to a Lacie 4TB Thunderbolt drive... It is big though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
