firoze Posted April 5, 2014 Share #1  Posted April 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those of you who are interested in close focus photography with the XV, with the help of Gerd (waloszek), I have found that the XV can focus approx 20% closer in autofocus mode vs Manual focusing. With autofocus, the XV can focus on an object 10.25mm wide, while with manual focus the closes it can focus is an object approx 12mm wide. Note that in autofocus mode, it helps to try all three metering patterns : single point, 11 point and spot. Depending on the nature of the subject, one of these will work best.  Gerd has very kindly posted my results on his very fine and useful website: Leica X Vario: Close-Up Experiments - No Lens  I am indebted, to Gerd for his considerable help (and patience) in conducting these tests. Thank you Gerd!  I must also acknowledge the help of Rodrigue Zahr who also sent me pics of the XV's close focus ability with manual focus.

I think your units should be cm. Very useful experiment. In fact it aligns with my own discovery although I have not taken time to quantify the results. thighslapper Posted April 8, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted April 8, 2014 .....just taken a tip from Guenther (schlemmer) and purchased a pair of Marumi Achromat Macro lenses with 43-49 step up rings to use ...... results are excellent and the higher dioptre of the two takes that figure down to a 5cm object filling the frame when used at 70mm at closest focus distance..... Guytou Posted April 9, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted April 9, 2014 I had bought this kit Raynox which I used with the adapter on my D-Lux 5 : Â KIT MACRO EXPLORER RAYNOX CM-2000 Â Stroke of luck, I can now use these two close-up (not screw 43 mm) directly on X Vario ! The installation is fast and the result is very good. Â Guy
waloszek Posted April 9, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted April 9, 2014 I bought a Marumi +5 achromat plus a 43 to 52 mm step-up ring (because there were no 49 mm achromats available). Some results can be seen on this page: Leica X Vario: Close-Up Lens Experiments - Part 2 Best regards, Gerd
