heinerpattaya Posted April 4, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, have a bit cash to spend and I am thinking of upgrading from 3 to 4. The V Lux design is absolutely my favorite camera, prefer it to all even DSLR. The V lux 3 is a bit tricky with jpegs - I do not shoot RAW. Found out very late that the settings (NR -2 and sharpness -1) are essential. The first 15 months of owning were quite disappointing. So who upgraded and what is your experience? Who has both of them? The extra money is no issue if I get - better jpegs - better bukeh - 1 or 2 stops advantage in low light BR Heiner

stuny Posted April 4, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 4, 2014 When Leica was unable to get my R8 and favorite lens back in time for a visit to Antarctica in January 2012 I borrowed the V Lux 2 from them and with three exceptions, shooting only jpegs had lovely results (see our site, photo galleries for Antarctica and for the Salta region of Argentina). Those 3? Auto focus through glass at an able focused on the glass; manual focus was nearly impossible to do; low light performance was inferior to my D2. In December 2012 Barbara gave me a V Lux 4, and other than underwater photos, it's the only camera of the 6 I own I've used since then. The autofocus through glass was quite good, the low light performance with the new sensor (new to the 4 vs the 2 & 3) was quite good, and manual focus was possible though clunky. Sorry I have no experience with the "3."
