M240 vs M9

But if the M240 making greens yellower than the M9 was due to increased IR sensitivity then wouldn't it follow that it (M240) should also tend to produce more magenta with black synthetics? Does it? In my few days with an M240 I didn't notice that it did and I haven't read of this being an issue. Hopefully it's just a color balance issue that can and will be sorted in a future firmware update.

Lots of discussion (with magenta pics) of M 240 showing IR sensitivity such as here and here, as well as other color issues, related or not.

Neither the M9 nor the M 240 provide as much IR filtration as with UV/IR cut filters, causing many to use the latter much the same as they did with the M8.

Don't know if there is any difference in degree of IR filtration between the M9 and M, or whether yellow/green differences can be explained by it, but the notion of less than complete IR filtration in both cameras has certainly received attention.

One thing I notice is that the shadow detail in the trees of the M is greater than the M9. Part of difference in the images is possibly attributable to the difference in dynamic range of the sensors ... rated at about 1.5 stops better on the M. Adjusting the images for contrast would make for a better comparison since there is more apparent contrast in the M9 images ???

As others have noted, the amount of yellow in the greens is higher on the M.

I just leave them on M8 or or M9, ie all the time unless light will be bouncing off the front of the lens.

I resolved all the color issues when I took a 50 mm lens with cut filter and profiled the camera with Adobe Profile editor. Then I set ACR to recognize the profile automatically based on camera serial number. No extra work at all and colors are perfect.
