I have a black M9 but I want a chrome one. I don't want the conversion to M9-P by Leica. It's too expensive and I don't need a new lcd, and I can use the chrome baseplate from my M8. I just want the top cover in chrome. Leica in Norway can't give me a price, Meister Camera in Hamburg can't give me a price. Can someone?

Thank you for your reply. I can only find a black and a grey paint cover on eBay. A chrome one would be rare I guess.

The M9 (as distinct from M9P) was only ever sold in black and grey so that would explain the paucity of chrome M9 top plates. I agree with Jaap that if you contact the right person at Leica you might find them accommodating (after all, it is money for old rope from their perspective).

I've had a top replaced by Leica, it cost around £400. However you might need to change the hotshoe which is another £80 (I think). They were prepared to change an M9p black to chrome but they might not want to put an M9p top on an M9. They would not change an M9p black to an MM case for example.

400,- Pounds are about what I was willing to pay. I think all M9 and the chrome M9-P used the same hot shoe, and the black M9-P a black one?

Anyway, it looks like I have to live with a black M9, or sell it and buy a used chrome M9-P. Or a chrome M 240.

Such is life... Perhaps use it well and then upgrade with the next digital M release.
