mlevy Posted April 28, 2007 Share #21 Posted April 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree the monopod is definitly worthwhile to have. I personally use the giotto monopod and its very lightweight and fits easily in my bag.. __________________________________ Mels Camera Leica Dealer Photo Forums I'm considering a monopod for use with the M8 in places where tripods are not allowed. I've looked on several forums and some people say monopods offer nothing over handholding. Others claim they gain a stop or two. Appreciate your experiences with this issue. Thanks. ron110n Posted April 28, 2007 Share #23 Posted April 28, 2007 I'm considering a monopod for use with the M8 in places where tripods are not allowed. Most places that don't allow a tripod won't also allow a monopod. Museums etc. Many people get away with a mini pocket tripod. Easy to smuggle in a Museum. A monopod is very handy on rangefinders especially when shooting sub 1/30th sec utilizing available light. Bogen Carbon fiber is very light. while the bogen standing monopod is a little heavy and only usefull on flat surfaces to make it stand by itself. I have both. -Ron
hdrmd Posted April 28, 2007 Share #24 Posted April 28, 2007 Monopods are very good for long lenses, and they would be a good night stick. I used one as a hiking staff and it did double duty to prod the llamas into action. DR
