brunom Posted April 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2007 Rob Have you considered the Gossen Starlite - just a thought, as it is a superb and very easy to use meter. Bruno

guywalder Posted April 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2007 I used a 308s for a few years, it is a nice meter. I sold it on after I got a 508 (I wanted a spot meter facility). I regreted selling the 308 because the 508 is so much larger, and the cap over the spot meter lens is so infuriating!! I ended up getting a 358 last week, bigger than the 308, but with weather sealing, memory function and feels sturdy. I'll use the 508 in the studio and when I am not worried about weight, and the 358 when on the move. The price difference is small (here in Tokyo) between 308 and 358, but the 358 feels like a much more serious tool.... As long as you dont abuse it, and it has all the functions you need, then the 308 is perfectly good. Guy
NickR Posted April 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 27, 2007 I have both the sekonic 308 and 358. The 308 is a great take-anywhere do-anything meter. Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. Very accurate and does flash metering. I only use the 358 when using multiple light sources indoors. In any case, I highly recommend the 308.
Sandokan Posted April 29, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 29, 2007 I agree with the others here - 308 is small, effective, easy and fits in the Artisan and Artist bag that holds just the M and a lens below 50mm. It is with my M all the time and I hardly ever use my 538 anymore (only for spot metering and flash). However for digital work - I never use a meter anymore and view the results instead. I find it most useful for taking incident light readings and then I dont have to worry about reflectivity etc. It is also quicker to do this with the manual M's and set the exposure before raising it to the eye. gylee Posted April 30, 2007 Share #7 Posted April 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I believe that the 308 only operates in shutter priority which I personally find a bit annoying. If the meter also had aperture priority, it would be perfect (particularly at the price). G.
