Hello,

I just picked up a new 50mm ƒ/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH Silver the other day and noticed that the ƒ16 engraving on the aperture ring is denoted only as "6" not "16." It is labeled 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, and then 6.

Is this normal? What's the story behind this?

Not normal.

Slip of the engraving tool? Early lunch break, mind somewhere else?

Probably doesn't enhance the value of the lens, but it might do so since the error is likely a one-off.

Maybe instead of pink leather and various colors of paint, Leica is now experimenting with leaving some numbers off?

If that works, they may try some special lenses missing one of the elements, do you suppose?

Not normal, but a "normal" engraving error... they've always happened in the years: on the Leica books (Lager etc...) you find "made in Germay" "Elmart" "made by Leit" "Wetzlr" ... Leica has been always famous to have remained, in a certain manner, "hand crafted" and people can make small errors...
