MarkP Posted March 9, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted March 9, 2014 To start with a dumb question, are you sure you had the focus right with the 35 Summarit. Â The 35 Summarit is a very good lens, thought to be the best of the Summarits and more-or-less on par with the 35 Summicron ASPH. It should out-perform the 40 Summicron. I'd get the 35 Summarit checked out or better still try another one as this is not right. Â Having said that, both lenses do get a bit soft towards the corners, more so the 40 Summicron. Â Regardless, don't get rid of that 40 Summicron.
620max Posted March 9, 2014 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 9, 2014 here I can see the Summarit-M 35mm is more wider than 40mm on M8, and the Summicron-C 40mm is more like a "Standard" lens on M8, it make more bokeh, and sharp from centre to side than the Summarit. what do you think? 01af Posted March 9, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted March 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think I sure the focus all the same on my M8 ... Definitely not. Your comparison is screwed up because the two lenses were focused differently. Do not derive any conclusions from those test pictures!
620max Posted March 9, 2014 Author Share #8 Â Posted March 9, 2014 Definitely not. Your comparison is screwed up because the two lenses were focused differently. Do not derive any conclusions from those test pictures! Â Â thanks, I will try another shots to compare, but when I use these lenses and now I know the summicron 40 is amazing, can't see any weakness on here, by the way I make another shot to let you guy to compare~
01af Posted March 9, 2014 Share #9 Â Posted March 9, 2014 I will try another shots to compare ... Before you do any comparisons, you should test if all your lenses are focusing properly. Â Â ... I know the Summicron-C 40 mm is amazing, can't see any weakness on here ... Then why are you wasting your time with comparisons? Better go out and take pictures. Â Â ... by the way I make another shot to let you guy to compare~ Personally, I don't care, because I already know how these two lenses compare. But then, maybe someone else is interested ...? 620max Posted March 9, 2014 Author Share #10 Â Posted March 9, 2014 what do you want for me sir? Â I just bought a New lens, and do some comparison is my interested. what do you shout for? Â ""the focus is not right"" is your opinion, so I will do my best to work on, let's see, but if you don't care, why you just shout here?? Â and how do you know I would't go out to take picture??? why don't you ask my flickr to see? Â you just resist to others and just shout here...? why not give some positive idea here?? expert! Â by the way, this comparison is for M8 user. because I want to find out which is the better "standard" Lens on M8 body. thanks!
MarkP Posted March 9, 2014 Share #11 Â Posted March 9, 2014 Olaf, you could be a bit more supportive to a new member who is only after some help. Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning,? Â Â Dear 62 Max, sorry, most new members get a better reception. Â Anyhow, 1 check you've got the focus sorted 2 if still an issue check the lens as it should perform much better than that. Â and either one should be fine on the M8 as the 'soft' corners are cropped regardless. Â Good luck.
620max Posted March 9, 2014 Author Share #12  Posted March 9, 2014 Thanks guys, this time I use the Magnifier X1.25 on the viewfinder and chose some easy focus point to test again, the comparison seem better now, hope you enjoy, let's see. 620max Posted March 9, 2014 Author Share #16 Â Posted March 9, 2014 Thank you guys, I think I just bought a great Lens for my M8, the summarit-M 35mm seem sharp than the summicron on this test , and make more contrast, I like this result, but the Summicron-C 40mm is also great! compact to use and sharp enough. Â thank you all!! now the comparison is more better~
620max Posted March 9, 2014 Author Share #17 Â Posted March 9, 2014 by the way, I will use the 40mm if I want more bokeh...
Guest Posted March 9, 2014 Share #18 Â Posted March 9, 2014 by the way, I will use the 40mm if I want more bokeh... Â Since that bokeh of the Summicron-C 40mm produced too much blur at wide apertures, it could not replace a Summicron 35 (8 lenses), although this Summicron is some more uncomfortable at transport through its M3 goggles. But at large apertures the corners of the Summicron-C 40mm lost too much image quality.
01af Posted March 9, 2014 Share #19  Posted March 9, 2014 ... the Summarit-M 35 mm seems sharper than the Summicron-C 40 mm in this test ... Yes, your results look better now and are consistent with my own results—the Summarit is the sharper lens. See how easy it is to come to the wrong conclusions from a poorly executed comparison?   ... but the Summicron-C 40 mm is also great! Compact to use and sharp enough. Yes, definitely. Just because one lens is sharper than another, it still doesn't mean it must always be the better lens for actual use. The Summicron has less 'bite' but a smoother, gentler, more 'organic' rendition and a beautiful bokeh. So for some applications, the Summarit might be the better lens; for others, the Summicron.  However ... if you plan to use these lenses for, say, landscape work then you mustn't test them at close range. Your current results are valid for close-range usage. If you want to know how the lenses compare at long focus distance then you'll have to test at long focus distance.  And oh, by the way—there is no such thing as 'more bokeh'. You can have more or less out-of-focus blur but not more or less bokeh ... because bokeh is not the amount of blur but the aesthetic quality or beauty thereof. Guest Ansel_Adams Posted March 9, 2014 Share #20 Â Posted March 9, 2014 Nice toys! Â Both lenses look excellent. What I see is greater DOF with the 35 compared to the 40 as you would expect. Otherwise they will look basically the same on final prints (nobody looks at 100% crops when viewing a final image).
