mike-s Posted March 5, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just bought a X1. I ran tests with an 8GB SDHCTranscend card with the camera set to JPEG fine. The card would not download (no recognition from the computer). Tried again with the card reformatted - this should not matter anyway - with the same result. I tried a different reader and different ports but still no connection. For no good reason that I can think of I then loaded the camera with an old slow 2GB SD card, which worked without problems. The same set-up, computer readers etc, works OK with the 8GB SDHC cards from my M8.2 and Canon 5D3. I can't make any sense of this, the images are on the card as they display in the camera normally. Anyone seen this before?
Advertisement Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Hi mike-s, Take a look here Problems downloading SDHC cards from X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted March 5, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2014 I currently have a Lexar Professional SDHC 16GB card in my X1, larger than I normally use, and have no problems downloading files. Some cards do seem to be temperamental when swapped between cameras. So I suggest you download them, exceptionally, direct from the camera and then resume shooting with a different card in your X1. jaapv Posted March 5, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 5, 2014 Never - ever - use cards from one camera type in another camera type without formatting. It is a recipe for failure.
mike-s Posted March 5, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted March 5, 2014 Thanks but I should have made it clear that I did format the cards in the X1 before using. This problem occurred despite this. I tried 2 different SDHC 8GB cards and 2 different readers. I cant help but think it must have something to do with the card speed. The 8GB cards are class 10, the old 2MB Sd cards, which do work, are probably what would now be called class 2. Can't for the life of me see why this should matter. Anyway I am going to try it again tonight.
dorman Posted March 9, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2014 It sounds as though your card reader is SD only, not SDHC. Is it quite old?
mike-s Posted March 10, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted March 10, 2014 Could be. I have 3 readers, none of them especially recent but the one I was using downloads the SHDC cards from the M8.2 and 5D3 without problems. The problem is a bit hit and miss. After reformatting and trying again following my last post the SDHC card download worked ok but again last night I had problems downloading the firmware update on a SHDC card and had to use an old SD card. Anyway I am ordering a new reader to see if the inconsistency disappears. Thanks for your replies guys. Mike
