KraftwerkM Posted March 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just bought my first Leica D-Lux and I'm very excited about this. Already took some amazing photos with it! Now, I'm interested in buying a decent range finder to go with it, but since I'm all spend-out, I'd like to find something decent, but not very expensive. This Simmons sounds promissing, and it's quite affordable. Is it possible that it's decent enough to go with my Leica Should I consider something else? Has anyone here used it? Advertisement Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Hi KraftwerkM, Take a look here Range finder question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted March 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2014 I'm not sure if you're serious or not. Stick to using your cameras auto focus modes. If you want to 'upgrade' read up on the Leica M.
giordano Posted March 3, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2014 According to the Amazon page linked to in the page you cite, the Lrf600 has a minimum distance of 10m and is accurate to 1m. That makes it useless for general photography, which requires much greater accuracy at much closer distances (e.g. accurate within 1cm at a distance of 1m). Even a rangefinder better suited to general photographic distances (e.g. Leica DISTO D2 Laser Distance Measurer - Amazon.com), will mostly be wasted because the manual focusing system on a camera such as a D-Lux doesn't allow precise distances to be set. Unless you have specialised uses in mind, you won't get better results than with intelligent use of the camera's autofocusing.
