There was a loud bang and a smell of burning this morning in my office while I was posting some photos.....

My XV battery charger appears to have committed suicide .......:(

Thanks to eBay a suitable $15 replacement is en route from Germany........

Will have the obligatory moan about Leica QC tomorrow and request a new one ...... however long that will take ....

Yes, that's another thing wrong with the XV. When charging the battery put a red light that turns green when fully charged. Well you can wait hours and it does not turn green, or happens once in a hundred. Of course, if after a couple of hours of charging, remove the battery and put back to perhaps get it to turn green. The charger is Chinese, but so is the loading of the D-Lux, and always worked perfectly. Please advise, I do not leave you alone, just in case.

My charger sample works "as expected." But with the many chargers in my household it is hard to remember what "green" or "red" means... Last year, when I was still working about SAP, I wrote a blog article about this issue: SAP Design Guild -- UI Design Blinks (2013)

Perhaps you have made similar experiences...

Best regards, Gerd

I think all chargers of any brand are made in china. Also the batteries are mostly made in china. Made in china does not mean there is no quality. But the modern batteries are HiTec products with low tolerances and produces in a mass market, and sure there is a percentage of batteries (and also chargers) which will crash. In such a case it is for Customer Support.

I always load my batteries while on a trip 1) never over night and 2) in the bathroom (so in case of damage there is no much destroyed beside the charger/battery) and I check regulary the battery during charge process (heat, noise).

Phoned Leica Customer Support this afternoon.

A very nice polite lady will put one in the post tomorrow for delivery friday.

No questions, just friendly apologies and fixed instantly.

I wish all replacement of defective goods was as painless ......
