losta Posted April 23, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got my 21 elmarit back from Allendale, NJ coding. I just realized I never had used it on the M8. What finder do people use for it? One Leica Rep said the 21 was approximately the full frame of the M8 viewfinder. Has anyone used it as such? If not what finder? How about the finder for a 15 CV what would give the best framing for that? Thanks in Advance, Lisa O.
Advertisement Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Hi losta, Take a look here Finders for wide lenses?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Laki Posted April 23, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 23, 2007 actually i dont use any finder with the 21 as well, it is mostly the full frame on the m8. though i m thinking to get the new finder (aka frankenfinder) which i tried at my dealer with the wate. simply because i'm going to get some wider lens as well. jaapv Posted April 23, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 23, 2007 This is my "21" mm finder, which actually is the 28 mm CV finder used here with the 21 Biogon. I find this a very bright and useful finder.
gdewitt Posted April 23, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 23, 2007 The FOV of the 21 will, on the M8, be equivalent to 28. So the 15CV finder will be waaaay too wide. You need to use a 28 finder. Some people say they can use the full finder of the M8 and that it shows roughly the area captured by the 21. Doesn't work for me. I can barely see the 28 lines and can't see the 24 at all. Tony C. Posted April 23, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 23, 2007 The Zeiss 25/28 finder is what I use with my 21mm lens, and it is the best finder I have ever used. In fact, it is so good that I actually look forward to using it, in contrast to the many M users who do anything to avoid external finders. Â You won't find anything comparable, but it is quite expensive. Â Regards, Â Tony C.
pelikan1931 Posted April 23, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 23, 2007 yes, the zeiss and indeed cosina finders are very bright, the zeiss finders have high magnification ratio, so you get bright and big view and wide view. Â I have also tried the vario 16-28 finder from Leica, it is convenient, but the view is not as bright as zeiss/cosina's, and its mag ratio is also lower, it does not have the impact as the zeiss/cosina, and it looks ugly. Â i will wait to see if zeiss/cosina will produce a similar vario finder, now they have 15/18/20/25/28 in their catalogue.
Tony C. Posted April 23, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted April 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good news for someone... Â I just happened to stumble across a used Zeiss 25/28 finder. I have no connection with the seller, but if it is still available, you will be able to save some money and get the best M8 21mm finder on the planet! Â Here's the link: Â Zeiss 25/28mm Brightline Finder New $300 -- $300 Â Good luck! Â Tony C.
