Albert Andersen Posted February 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi. Untill to day my M240 and Summilux 50/1,4 ASPH has worked fine, but today it no longer detect the lens in Lightroom. It says: Unknown Lens. I have tryed to set it to manual detection and chosen the correct lens, but with the same result: Unknown lens. I have cleaned both the lens and the bayonet, but still no lens is detected. I have also changed SD card, and reinstalled firmware 2.0.0.11, but without any change. What can be wrong?

StephenPatterson Posted February 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2014 So you have manually selected the lens, but the EXIF is not showing up in Lightroom? This does not sound like a problem with the lens or sensor then.

joesqua Posted February 21, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2014 In LR, go to VIEW, then VIEW OPTIONS, then LOUPE VIEW, select CAMERA and next line COMMON PHOTO SETTINGS. That should do it.

Se e.g. in my answer to jaapv
jaapv Posted February 22, 2014 Share #11 Posted February 22, 2014 Still, the problem is nearly sure to be with Lightroom. Just to be certain, use an EXIF reader to check the EXIF data. Does Lightroom still recognize the lens when you load an older DNG where it worked correctly in the past?
Albert Andersen Posted February 22, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted February 22, 2014 jaapv, maybee I am wrong, but if I remember right the lens is detected both for JPG and DNG files. It works perfect with DNG files, where all lens data is recorded. Enclosed an ex. for the DNG data. Thank you for your time Welcome, dear visitor! Have you examined the EXIF data in your jpeg files with anything other than Lightroom to confirm whether or not the lens data is being captured? Albert Andersen Posted February 22, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted February 22, 2014 Yes, I have tested in Photoshop. Only the full lens name is recorded for DNG files. JPG have only focal length .
StephenPatterson Posted February 22, 2014 Share #15 Posted February 22, 2014 OK, I normally only shoot DNG files so I just did a little experiment where I shot a DNG+JPEG file and loaded the file into LR 5.3. The DNG file comes up with the full lens make and model info, as well as the serial number of the camera, but the jpeg only displays the focal length. The EXIF viewer I have is just the Mac Preview Inspector, so I may not be getting everything that is being recorded, but on first pass it appears that the camera is not writing the same info to both files. jaapv Posted February 22, 2014 Share #17 Posted February 22, 2014 Ah - that clarifies it a bit. There was a similar bug reported in the beginning. Leica did record some data in a different place in EXIF that was not read by LR Maybe this is a remnant. I just checked on a few shots I accidentally shot DNG + JPG. It behaves the same way here. I would say : report the bug to Leica. Not that it will be corrected anytime soon I guess…
Albert Andersen Posted February 22, 2014 Author Share #18 Posted February 22, 2014 With your help, I have found out the reason for the missing EXIF data. It has always been that way, but because I normally use the DNG format, and after editing export the files to Lightroom as JPG I have not seen it , because all EXIF data in the DNG are kept in the exported JPG file. For the first time I took JPG pictures last week, and saw the missing lens data. It has always been that way, and are not a failure in my camera or lens. I have reported the bug to Solms. Thak you for your help.
Likaleica Posted February 24, 2014 Share #19 Posted February 24, 2014 I noticed a weird thing today. LR does not recognize apertures less than 4.0. I set my 50 lux at f/1.4 and the file reads it as f/4.0. Same for Apo-Summicron 75. Set it at f/2 and LR read it as f/4.0. Anyone had a similar experience? I apologize if this has been covered already but I didn't find it in a forum search.
jaapv Posted February 24, 2014 Share #20 Posted February 24, 2014 Well, actually it does; the inexactitude of the aperture data has been discussed since January 2007. The camera can only guesstimate.
