Advertisement Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Hi awesom3, Take a look here Too late to get M9 upgraded to M9P in NJ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
M9reno Posted February 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2014 I did the screen upgrade last May, I think. Still going, as far as I know.

erl Posted February 19, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2014 The only 'advantage' of the upgrade is the script on the topplate, which I like. The upgraded screen is no different or better in my experience. I preferred the original M9 leatherette covering to the M9-P. As a camera, it is identical. Think about why you want the 'upgrade'. M9reno Posted February 19, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 19, 2014 ^ erl, my view was precisely the opposite. To me the script was useless vanity in imitation of film bodies, which I already own and treasure for different reasons. However, the sapphire screen, especially after a bad experience with plastic cover residue, lets me get on with using the camera, for as long as its digital clock will tick (10 years?) with one less worry about damage. But as you say, to each his own.
awesom3 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted February 20, 2014 Mostly i want the silver chrome finish which wasn't available on the M9, didn't like the grey paint so I bought the black paint, which is quite nice actually. Always the debate on whether to spend the money on glass or cosmetics
M9reno Posted February 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted February 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine is steel-grey, and I like it fine. Actually, I am curious whether these cameras with unusual paint (the M9 as the first Leica painted steel-grey, similarly the M-E) won't become, once their electronic innards become obsolete and unrepairable, sought-after display items along the lines of grey-painted Luftwaffe screwmounts.
