M8 - Impressions

I want to say that I am happy with my M8. I have ratcheted a recently purchased 28-35-50 Tri Elmar to it and I carry the camera wherever I go. I also carry a 90 Elmarit. Neither lens is coded, and neither lens has an IR filter. The M8 has performed to my expectations.

I've not abandoned film and I keep a separate bag with two M5s, an MP .85 and the following lenses: 24, 35 f2, 50 f1.4, 50 f1, 75 f2, 90 f2 and a recently purchased 135 f3.4. I take it whenever I travel.

As for reflex gear, I have a bag with 2 SL2s, 35 f2, 60 f2.8, 100 APO Macro and a 180 Apo Telyt.

I still like film because of the look, not because it is better or worse. I will shoot film until it is no longer available.

Hear , hear! ME as well. Headed for Santa Fe Tuesday with the M8, M7, R-D1s and 15CV, TE, 50 Nokton, and 90 Summicron. Film and pixels! Yippee!!!

LHSA Spring Shoots are always fun. We can't make it this year and will miss the many pleasant associations you'll be having. Feed us some images and gosip from the event, yes?

I also have been afflicted by a severe case of M8 love.

All my friends laughed when I announced my intention to buy one. Now, I can carry my complete general purpose kit (M8, 28-35-50 Tri Elmar, 35m summicron) in one small domke bag while they have to lug their SLRs around in huge backpacks. And the M8 feels more solid than any other Jap SLR i've held.

Plus, theres a whole new philosophy with using rangefinders. The M8 really opened my eyes to a whole different side of photography, with the camera being a chronicler of life and experience instead of just being a recorder of pretty things. This is something that i could not appreciate while lugging around a Nikon D-70, as unlike the M8, I could not (or would not) take it everywhere I went.

Hopefully, I'll graduate to film format with an M6, M7 or MP.

My biggest problem now is finding lenses all the way here in South East Asia! I'm looking for a 75mm Summicron and the 50mm Noctilux.

Unfortunately, I'll haven't even found a source yet, so I don't know at what price I'll be buying it for. I should probably act fast before Leica jacks up the price again.

I would prefer the relative confidence and safety of buying new, since returns and legal complaints will be very hard for me based on my geographical location. Can anyone recommend a source?
