Chrnes Posted February 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have some white spots on my M9 sensor that aren't dust. They light up when I look on the sensor at an angle. They cause "dust shadows" in my pictures. Does anybody know what it is? Thanks, Christian Welcome, dear visitor! 250swb Posted February 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2014 Oil or grease thrown off by the shutter? Steve
Chrnes Posted February 14, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted February 14, 2014 Yes, it must have been some grease. I could remove it with a wet sensor clean product. Thanks!
Jing Posted February 16, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2014 hi there, i don't think is the grease or oil on the señsor.. it is the faulty sensor.. i had my M9 sensor replaced a year back due to some defect in the sensor, photos showing some spots of 'rings'.... unfortunately the same problem happen again just last couple mths and it looks worse that before... see the photos here... the spots are clearly visible with very clear back ground... and a few 'worm' like line, which i think should be some dust fr the shutter. the photos were taken using 24mm and 90mm lens...same spots where u can find the the rings and line.. going to bring back to Leica and see what they can advise me.. very disappointed.. regards, Jing http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/12562205593_879f40811c_o.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5478/12562094815_a9f5f80a46_o.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/12562205593_879f40811c_o.jpg

Chrnes is talking about white spots on the sensor, not white spots under the glass of the sensor. It may seem like a subtle difference to you but the effects and solution are very different. As has been noted Chrnes spots cast a dark dust shadow, meaning they are something three dimensional, like dust or oil, resting on the surface of the sensor, and if that is the case they can be cleaned off by the owner. Joewdwd Posted February 21, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 21, 2014 Yep problems with my sensor as well. I took it to the Leica repair centre, Melbourne Australia last September. They said that Leica is having problems with many sensors for M9s and is getting a new supplier. Despite many many phone calls from me they still have my camera, 16 weeks now, and still no definite date for when I will get it back. Apparently many people in Australia have M9s there as well. Beautiful camera but this is totally unacceptable from Leica. Joe
