fotomas Posted February 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I just got a Sanho Colorspace UDMA2 hyperdrive to backup my shots while travel. Works fine via the SD-card. But I have the multifunctional handgrip at the camera and like transfer the data via USB. The UDMA2 handbook says, that I have to buy another OTG module for this propose. The USB-cabel that came with the handgrip won't fit in the mini B USB port of the UDMA2. So now my question: Have someone tested if it's possible to connect the camera just with the cable and an adapter to mini-B USB, or do I really have to buy this OTG-module? dugby Posted February 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2014 Hi Frank, I use the previous version to yours, ie Colorspace UDMA with my M240. This device is quite unique and I suspect not many know about it. Despite updating to the latest firmware which claimed support for Leica DNG, mine does not display them. But it is still providing me as a useful backup tool whilst travelling, especially now that I can use 1TB SSD. I will be interested in your results on whether a USB connection can be established to the M240 handgrip.
AlanJW Posted February 14, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2014 If you contact the Colorspace people on line, ask about a beta version of new firmware that supports M(240) raw files. I tested this in September and it worked for me, though it is slow opening raw files. I did not have a grip with which to test it, but it works very well directly with SD cards. I don't see the advantage of connected via USB versus pulling the card to copy files.
tobey bilek Posted February 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 14, 2014 I believe USB is more robust. Plus it can be bypassed if it breaks by using the SD card itself. Is a second drive a true back up unless there are two? To copy files to a device and then erase the SD is not a back up. To not erase and use a new card negated the advantage of copy via USB. The real back up is copy to computer, generate DVD or thumb drives and mail them home.
fotomas Posted February 15, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted February 15, 2014 Hello, thanks for your replies. I upgraded to firmware v35 (came with 30). Now it can read Leica-DNGs. But it's really slow with it. So I think I will prefer to view them in the camera and just use it as a backup. Found it more comfortable to use the USB for that since you don't have to screw off the grip each time to reach the card. Therefor my question. dugby Posted February 15, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 15, 2014 I've been using v39 firmware since 2013, without DNG viewing success. As I already expected any viewing of large files would be very slow, i have not been bothered that the DNG may not show. I'm happy with the JPEG viewing. fotomas Posted February 15, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted February 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) To copy files to a device and then erase the SD is not a back up. To not erase and use a new card negated the advantage of copy via USB. My plan is to leave the pictures on the card, but regularly copy them to the UDMA2. Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't offer a incrementally backup. So I'm afraid it copy s the whole card every time. I have 32 GB cards, and with my way of shooting it will take several days or weeks to fill them. So probably no need to erase them. I try to avoid to take a large and heavy laptop with me. I won't need a UDMA2 otherwise. I've been using v39 firmware since 2013, without DNG viewing success. v39? May this be for the formerly UDMA. For the UDMA2 the latest I could find was v35. https://hypershop.zendesk.com/entries/24609023-ColorSpace-UDMA2-Firmware-V35-Latest- But still nobody around who have experience connecting via USB? f-)

I don't have mine with me and I don't have the manual but I know it is there because I did it on a trip last fall.
fotomas Posted February 26, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted February 26, 2014 There is a way to do incremental backups on the colorspace. Checked this out yesterday. I compared it with an UDMA from a friend. Looks like the dropped this feature in the UDMA2. This is really annoying since it will cost you useless lots of battery life and time. Maybe you can select the new pictures manually, but that won't do any good either. Okay - You can erase the card after every transfer, but than you wouldn't have a backup any more. f-/

fotomas Posted February 27, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted February 27, 2014 In the Import card settings there is a setting for Imp. Inc. which means incremental. Thanks! I see. In the old model you could choose this in the global settings. Here you have to choose it when the card is inserted. So I didn't see it, since we just compared the menus without adding a card. I will give it a try. f-)
