hoppyman Posted February 14, 2014 Share #21 Posted February 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark I am really surprised to read these reports from some users too. If the lens and camera are calibrated correctly it ought to be superb on the new M. Mine certainly was on my M9.
Advertisement Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Hi hoppyman, Take a look here Macro-Elmar-M owners opinion wanted. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
russell Posted February 18, 2014 Share #22 Posted February 18, 2014 Yes, I'm surprised to hear people have sharpness problems. This is one of, if not the sharpest lens I own. I suggest there might be something wrong with the body or perhaps the lens needs adjustment. One con to this lens is that it does tend to flare. As much as some like to complain about the 50mm summicron, the MEM is much worse. So you lose some of the smallness factor as you really have to shlep around the hood. I haven't had any shots ruined from my 50mm cron but I have had handful ruined by MEM flare where I didn't use the hood.

I use the small hood 12550 from the 50mm f2.8 collapsible elmar on the MEM 90 and have not had any problems with flare. My 50mm Summicron seems worse in this respect. MarkP Posted February 19, 2014 Share #24 Posted February 19, 2014 I almost always use the original hood and have never had this lens flare. I might try the little 2.8/50 hood though.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted February 19, 2014 Share #25 Posted February 19, 2014 Is the hood included in the kit or is it an extra?
wattsy Posted February 19, 2014 Share #26 Posted February 19, 2014 There is a hood included but it is a bit ungainly. I too used a 50/F2.8 hood as a smaller substitute when I owned this lens. FWIW I don't recall this lens being flare prone.
algrove Posted February 20, 2014 Share #27 Posted February 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine does not flare, but i must say i allways use hoods. Better safe than sorry.
