Hello,

about 15 days ago I mailed the request for the 20% discounted lens to Leica. I haven't heard anything about it and I was wondering who I should contact at Leica for inquiring and how long should it take to recive it. I made a tour on the Leica website but I was not able to find any relevant e-mail address. Needless to say tha I would like to receive the lens within a decent time frame. I am also still waiting to receive the IR filters.

Thanks, Giulio

I assume you mean the 30% discount offer for those paying for a camera before the end of last year. If you have sent in the completed order form, you should receive an order acknowledgement first and the lens later. The lead time depends on the lens you ordered buy you will be waiting at least a few weeks. I waited about 6 weeks for my WATE and the same for my 75/1.4.

As for filters, the smaller ones are shipping now, if you ordered 55mm and up, you'll be waiting for at least a few more months, maybe even into June.

Giuilo,

I sent an order by post from Ireland on the 12th march and the Leica reply/order confirmation was dated the 22nd march. It arrived by registered post on about 25th march. I suspect you'll get your letter this week.

I don't know what is in stock, all I know is I have to wait circa 8 weeks for the Nocti. I'm also waiting for my 55 & 60 mm filters. But I'm in no hurry.

You'll enjoy the 35 Summilux, nice lens!.

sent you a PM with contact details

Warm regards

Eoin

But, basically, be prepared to wait a long time - they are pretty hopelessly behind on manufacturing lenses at this point...I've been waiting since January on my WATE....but you will *eventually* get your original documents back, which will confirm your order.

Eoin,

I am new to this forum and a new user of Leica. You mentioned "PM" in the quoted message. I would like to know the contact you mentioned as well because I just got my M8. Can you PM the contact details to me, please? Thanks very much for your time. Hope to hear from you soon!

Best regards,

EDDY

here is my message to andrea and jessica's response, completely ignoring the part about the tri-elmar:

Dear Mr Milich,

thank you for your email. I understand that it is hard to wait for something you need. The high order incoming causes a longer delivery period than we would like to offer. The only thing I can tell you is that the delivery period for the filters will be approximate about 3 month. We ask for your understanding as the shippment of filters is executed by an external company.

Thank you very much!

Kind regards

Jessica Schwanzara

I have received a notice indicating you have received my order for the 16-18-21 Tri-elmar with finder under the 30% discount offer. I realize the lens is in short supply, but can you estimate a delivery time?

I also have on order the 55mm and 46mm UV/IR cut filters. Can you estimate delivery for those? It is especially frustrating to see that several dealers now have the 46mm and other sizes in stock before you have shipped to the M8 owners who have had filters on order from very early on.

thanks for your response.

Eddy,

The contact sent to Giulio was Andrea.Herold@Leica-Camera.com / 0049 6442-208-815, I just didn't post the email address publicly but it was posted later in the thread. I just hope this poor lady is prepared for the onslaught of questions and people don't vent their anger at her.;)

Mathew, I'm hoping it's about T - 3 weeks for shipping the Nocti at this stage, I've been reading the 50 Summilux v Nocti thread and most seem keener on the 50 Lux. I just have a feeling the Nocti will give me the look I've been missing from my 85L and I know I'd keep driving my self crazy thinking about what I'd be missing if I didn't at least give it a good solid workout. But at the end of the day if it does not deliver the look, it will be sold on with my 75 Summicron and both replaced with a 75 summilux.

I've read with interest John Milich's post and see that perhaps the 55 UV/IR Cut delivery has been pushed out to end of July, this along with the 60mm are the two I'm waiting for:rolleyes: I know at the time I moved over to leica I was thinking my photography would be at a more relaxed pace, (deep breath) sigh! but this is so sad it's funny:D but there is no use getting upset they will arrive when they arrive and this will be just a distant memory . LOL

Knowing this is off thread. But what make you want to trade your 75 Cron for 75 Lux? I have had similar thoughts in my mind recently but cooled down now.

BTW, haven't read the 50 lux vs noct thread. But if I really can take only one, it must be 50 lux asph.

Matthew, I had a deep love affair with the Canon 85L and when I moved over to Leica I tossed and turned between the two 75's as to which would give the closest look to the 85L. For whatever reason the 75 Cron won out in my mind and the purchase was made. I have had some good success with this lens. It's true what people say about it being very sharp but the problem for me is the mood the lens draws is very stark. There was a glow (for want of a better word) that I got with the 85L that I can't seem to reproduce with the Cron.

Having used the 75 Cron for some months now I think the 50 focal length is slightly better for the portrait type setting, perhaps it's the ease of focus or composition within the rangefinder viewer but for what ever reason I'm liking the 50 focal length better for this type of situation.

I'm reluctant to try the 50 Summilux Asph as I know how the Asph's draw with my existing 35 Lux Asph and 75 Asph and this is why I want the feeling, mood I've seen in so many Noctilux shots. I know the f/1.0 is an overkill as I tend to shoot portrait @ f/2.2 or there abouts. But there seems to be less correction or starkness in the images I've seen from the Nocti and that I hope will give the mood I'm after.

I'm saying to my self try the Nocti with the 30% off, if it does not work as I want sell it and the 75 cron and replace both with the 75 Summilux which also seems to have the glow.

I already have a 50 Summicron to fill the 35 - 75 gap.

Should the Nocti work as I wish, I think I'll still sell on the 75 cron, it's a lovely lens but I'm just not comfortable with the starkness. I'm shooting colour and perhaps if I was shooting B&W it would be a different story.

Well that's my reasoning anyway, flawed as it may be in someone else's eyes, I have to answer the burning questions in my own mind........for peace of mind. LOL:D

p.s. sorry for spelling your name wrong

Hi Eoin

I actually got the same feeling as you do regarding the 75 Cron. I won't say it is stark though it for sure does not draw like its brother Lux.

I've also been struggling between them for long. For certain reason and compactness, I choose 75 Cron last July. I order the 30% discounted Noct just because of the same reason you got.

I got the feeling that 70-80s Leitz design and 90s asph design are really like red wine. You cannot say which is better than which, just a matter of different tastes in terms of contrast, sharpness, bokeh smoothness, glows. Asphs are damn sharp but sometimes I agree with some forum members' saying, "Do we need that sharpness or level of correction?" I believe it actually depends of what kind of pictures we would like produce.

35 Lux asph, I would say it is actually the least sharp asph in my experience. I thought it is a very well balance lens in terms of sharpness and smoothness. It got smooth bokeh like the 4th Cron too, IMHO.

My current stable includes,

15 CV

21 asph

28/2 asph

35/1.4 asph

35/2 asph

50/1 coming

50/1.4 asph

75/2 asph

My brain keeps telling me that is enough. My heart keeps looking good condition 35 4th Cron and 75 Lux. I guess you may well understand me =)

I KNOW what a difference is there in the picture taken with a Noct and a 75 Lux. I saw the comparison many many times. They can't replace each other!Addicted in Leitz...

And I tell myself, how about a 75 Lux asph is already in Leica's pipeline?

Matthew, it seems we're searching for the same thing  , I don't have such a magnificent line up of lenses like you and would like to keep it fairly straight forward. I don't agree with you regarding the 35 Summilux Asph, that is one magnificent lens, the bokeh can be a little strange sometimes but it's such a performer and so sharp edge to edge. Somehow I just wish it was a little wider on the M8.

I've thought about changing it for the 28 f/2 Asph a few times but just can't bring my self to part with such a superb lens, we'll see how the Nocti works out and then I may readjust the focal spread. I'd be very interested in your opinion seeing as you have both?.

Currently I have the 21 asph, 35Lux Asph, 50 Cron, 75 Cron, with the Nocti on order. It's a lot of very expensive glass but I have little else that interests me by way of pastimes. I shoot mainly for my family, some friends and myself when I want quiet time. It's so satisfying to me to be able to produce some wonderful images and strive for perfection (not yet). Moving back to leica after 20+ years is like a breath of fresh air and for the first time in such a long time I feel liberated.

Yes I will admit, I've become a Leica 'holic and my name is Eoin!.:)

My Noct is still coming. Would definitely share more when I got it in hand. For Noct portrait, look at this,

http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/22545-noctilux-summilux-2.html#post237769

How can you resist !! A Noct...

I always tell my friend there is a king and three queens in the world of Leitz, it is an interesting analogy, of course. I mean the Noct and the 3 Lux, whatever generation be they.

I just missed a chance to buy a 99% new 75 Lux 15 mins earlier. I took a second thought for 1 day and some lucky man snap it up instantly. It is the 2nd time things like this happened to 75 Lux and me =) Keep sharing.

Cheers

Matthew
