The ones that will not include the 24mm f/2.8 Elmairt-R, 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye, late model 19mm Elmarit-R, either 15mm lens, 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-R, and the early 80-200mm f/4.5 Vario. There are other newer lenses that may have been converted from 3rd-cam or ROM to 3-cam (for the SL2) but will not work on the SL: 90mm APO-Summicron-R, 35-70 f/4, 21-35 Vario, last 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-R (E60), probably the 28-90 Vario. The 1.4x APO-Extender-R can be modified to fit the SL (with stop-down metering) but the 2x APO-Extender-R cannot. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
TomB_tx Posted January 29, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2014 The R-series (later) lenses that won't work on the SL have a modified bayonet (wider lug) so they won't fit onto an SL, thus no worry about damage. That helps if you already have the lens, but if you are shopping it isn't much help. I had my old 2-cam 135 modified to 3-cam by one of the respected US aftermarket techs, and it took a year "waiting for parts." It came back fine, but with the bayonet mount replaced with one from one of the non-SL lenses. It fit a R-series body fine, but I had to compare mounts and grind a bit to use it again on my SL, where it originated. It still feels most natural on the SL. Waiting for parts?!? An old 3-cam 14198 macro-adapter-R can be canibalized for the cam, shims and screws and the remaining pieces are existing parts slightly modified. Putting an R-only bayonet mount on it was clearly an error, there's no reason the tech should have done that; the original should have been fine.
