douglasgottlieb Posted January 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have not shot film in several decades, and never shot with a Leica. Until now. I just purchased an M3 and could not be more excited. I'm definitely not ready to go back to developing and printing my own black and white just yet. I'm looking for recommendations for labs that care -- and preferably, labs that can also scan all the way to the sprockets and beyond. And also seeking film recommendations. Is any of the C41 b&w any good? Thanks in advance!

sblitz Posted January 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2014 Go to color house on Lafayette St. A few blocks south of Spring st. Turnaround is 24 hours very reasonable price they do color and bw. I have met a number of pro photogs there on occasion. A really good guy. You can mention my name if you would like. To be clear I have no icon medical tie to the place. They are just convenient to my office and I want them to stay in business

michaelwj Posted January 23, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 23, 2014 And also seeking film recommendations. Is any of the C41 b&w any good? Thanks in advance! To answer this part, I prefer a silver B&W to the C41 type, it seems to respond better to colour filtration, but it could just be me. Michael

Berth Posted January 23, 2014 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2014 I'm hopeful I've found a good lab locally (~ 35 miles) for developing and high-res scans of E-6, C-41, and B&W films. PhotoVision in Salem, Oregon. They do mail order too, and give the impression of being extremely knowledgeable. Visited today and got the impression we're were on the same page for Leical rangefinder film street photography. I've got a few months before my trip to verify they're as good as they appear to be. I'm also going to be developing my skill sets with my Nikon Coolscan with VueScan software.
douglasgottlieb Posted January 23, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted January 23, 2014 Street photography is a favorite genre of mine as well, although my current style is to overshoot and burst mode with digital. That will get very costly in film, so I'm starting off with more controlled and deliberate subjects like portraiture I'll need to up my game considerably before shooting film on the street but that's a goal! Good luck and thanks for the lab tip!
