thpeters Posted April 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 21, 2007 With duck tape. Or look it up on the leica website Theo
Tony C. Posted April 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 21, 2007 It simply screws into the viewfinder.
gwelland Posted April 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 21, 2007 You screw it in to the viewfinder - one side is threaded ... the other isn't!
marknorton Posted April 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2007 The finder has both a male and female thread so that you can stack them - we tried using two a couple of weeks ago and it works well for a 90mm (and maybe 75mm lenses).

pat308 Posted April 21, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted April 21, 2007 Thanks for the photo. Thanks for all the responses. I knew it was going to sound like a stange request; what can I say i'm a visual guy.. And I could not find it on Leica's web site..
gilles_lorin Posted April 22, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 22, 2007 Has anyone tried the .85x? I saw this on ebay the other day. I wear glasses and passed the 35mm, I've got difficulties seeing the frame lines... I tried the 1.25x last year, definitely not for an eyeglass wearer. mikeadams Posted April 22, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 22, 2007 My first M6 was .85 and with a single 35 ASPH, I too found I could not see all the frame at once and I was always twisting my eye to see side to side. It was so uncomfortable I found myself avoiding the camera. I traded it on a .58 ala carte M7 and all is well, and the M8 standard is OK too with my single 35. The moral: try before you buy. gilles_lorin Posted April 22, 2007 Share #11 Posted April 22, 2007 Thanks Mike; I meant a .85x magnifier. It roughly turns the .72 into a .60...
marknorton Posted April 22, 2007 Share #12 Posted April 22, 2007 Yes, but the M8 finder is 0.68 base magnification. The 1.25 finder turns it into 0.85 and the HK Supplies 0.85 magnifier turns it into 0.58 which, conincidentally are the two special magnifications offered on the film cameras. gilles_lorin Posted April 22, 2007 Share #13 Posted April 22, 2007 Thanks Mark; do you know if the hksupply magnifier is any good? The seller has good reputation..
marknorton Posted April 22, 2007 Share #14 Posted April 22, 2007 I have their 1.25 in addition to the Leica one and it works just as well but does not have the rubber surround and lanyard to tether it to the camera. I've never had any problems with HK Supplies but they don't list as much Leica stuff as they used to.
gilles_lorin Posted April 22, 2007 Share #15 Posted April 22, 2007 Thanks Mark; I will give them a try. I think it might help me with the 28mm lens. Gilles
steve_l Posted April 22, 2007 Share #16 Posted April 22, 2007 I'm curious about getting a 1.25 magnifier for the Universal Finder - for use only on an M8 the .28 magnification could use a bump.....(the .28 is needed to get a true 16mm full frame on film). I know the threads are different between the camera finder and Universal Finder (at least that is what I heard)????
johnwolf Posted April 22, 2007 Share #17 Posted April 22, 2007 Gilles, I also use the HK 1.25 magnifier. I don't know how it compares to the Leica, but I find it excellent. Well-made and clear. It took about a week to reach Chicago. John
chris_tribble Posted April 22, 2007 Share #18 Posted April 22, 2007 One thing to remember on this is that you can screw a diopter into the Leica 1.25 magnifier. It's a slight hassle as you have to UNscrew the diopter that you've got in place, but it makes the visual experience pretty comfortable for me. BTW what I've found works is to keep a diopter in place all the time on the magnifier so that I only have to remove the one that's on the body. REALLY looking forward to having my second M8 as I'll then be able to have one set up for 50mm and above (with the magnifier on all the time and the second body reserved for wider. This was how life used to be when I shot with my M6 .58 alongside my .72 finder body... It works. Best
gravastar Posted April 22, 2007 Share #19 Posted April 22, 2007 Thanks Mark; I will give them a try. I think it might help me with the 28mm lens. Gilles Before you spend money on a "reduction" magnifier, have you read the comment on an original vendor's web page? Megaperls Webshop - Films and more directly from Japan "Reports on the effectiveness of this item are mixed. The minifier is not recommended while wearing glasses or for Leicas with 0.58 or 0.72 magnification as the minifying effect is minimal. Please contact us for details." Bob. craigrmurray Posted April 23, 2007 Share #20 Posted April 23, 2007 Gilles, I also use the HK 1.25 magnifier. I don't know how it compares to the Leica, but I find it excellent. Well-made and clear. It took about a week to reach Chicago. John John and Gilles: I bought the HK 1.25 magnifier a few months ago, and it is indeed excellent, especially for the price. One thing, though -- I'm sighted for reading in my picture-taking eye (monovision with Lasik) and must use the -2 dioter. The HK is not threaded on the inside to accept an auxilliary diopter, so is therefore difficult for me to use. I don't recall HK describing this in their website literature, so beware. However, the Leica one does accept diopters. So, if you don't need the eyepiece correction, the HK works great.
