elgenper Posted January 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2014 Presuming you consider the moon as the main subject, and thus want details on it, you´d be best off following Ansel Adams´ observation that the moon is a sunlit rock landscape, and should be exposed accordingly. So, somewhere around f/4 and 1/250 sec with ISO 80 should be in the ballpark, I´d say. People tend to use far more exposure, and get white, featureless discs instead. Obviously, objects around you will be severely underexposed, but you´re reaching for the moon… And auto is out, use fully manual and make a few test shots. Shots like Adams´ Moonrise, Hernandez and Moon and Half Dome that show detail in both the moon and the terrestrial landscape are taken quite early in the evening or late afternoon (4 pm for the first), when the light is balanced.
