I don't know what an M6 body cost new in 1996 ( I imagine more than 800) but I can tell you a new M7 or MP body in Canada is $6000.00, and a 35 summilux 1.4 asph lens is over $5000 new at the Leica boutique.

That's why the economics make sense.

As for the pattern I don't care if it has it or not. It's about getting a new mechanical Leica film body. Only other choice is the MP.

I am not looking to buy a used body, too many bad experiences in the past with used equipment and so I buy new.

A new leica M6 in 1996 was about f 4200,- that's about € 1538,-

Update: sourced a new M6 on eBay in Germany. Won the auction. eBay wouldn't let me pay because it was not listed internationally. Seller asked me to agree to cancel and he would re-list on international listings, then I could buy it. I agreed to this. He re listed it . However he decided to jack up the price 500 euros, which was not what I agreed to. So I told him to pound sand and ordered a new black MP from B+H.

Problem solved. :)

IMHO you chose wisely.Enjoy!

Agreed.

The Ein Stuck M6 had a hefty collector's premium attached to it; that's like throwing money out the window, if you want a camera to make photographs with (which you obviously do).

A camera & lens that had been sitting for 18 years would no doubt need an overhaul if you were going to use it; the lubricants are probably petrified. There goes more money out the window, probably $600-700 for the body and lens, in addition to shipping & insurance.

Well the MP arrived a day late due to some customs mix up so I haven't had as much spare time to play with it as I would have liked but I am thrilled with it so far. It seems to have a real heft and solidity that is not present on my digital bodies. The operating actions are wonderfully smooth and precise! I can see this camera lasting long after my lubricants have all seized and atrophied!

Although I will add I was surprised by the curiously very shiny paint on the MP. Perhaps someone can answer if it is painted or black chrome. It is much shinier than my M 240 which in turn is much shinier than the completely flat MM. The MM was my introduction to Leica by the way and I was so blown away by it I sold all my Nikon gear. I will add the finish on the MM is not very durable, it is wearing away with a big whitish patch where my finger rests on the top plate, although I somewhat like it - adds character.

The operating actions are going to get even smoother. Digital has so many things going for it it is pointless to argue. So, don't argue. Go out and run some film through that MP. It's time better spent. ;)

hi, I had a M6 (black chrome) before , now moved to MP (black paint), yes, the reason is the black paint, I love black paint leica so much, btw I think they are no different for take pictures, function just the same camera, but MP is expensive and very very heavy, I think MP is the most heavy leica. heavy than my M9, not easy to use, but M6 has no this problem, the M6 make me to shoot more~

Strangely enough, the MP and the M9 are virtually the same weight (off the top of my head both weigh around 600g) although I agree that the MP feels heavier than other bodies (including the M6) – it must be the weight of the paint.:D

The weight perception also cuts both ways. A photographer colleague of mine once remarked about the weight of my M9P that it was significantly heavier than the M6 he had been used to (albeit not having used it for a number of years).

Hello everyone, here I am, the owner of a Leica M6 "Ein Stück" used by a professional photographer but remaining in mint condition. I like the
stories of these leicas with their anecdotes. This M6 was bought new in 1996 by this photographer but unfortunately all the documents have
been lost, see photo 5. Does anyone have a contact at Leitz to see if there is a possibility of having these documents?. I contacted Leica
Store Paris but without success. In any case for me one of the most beautiful copies of a limited series M6🙂. Thanks
