stunsworth Posted April 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can't stop posting these, sorry about that :-) This is the full frame. Would it have ben better with a bit cropped off the bottom? M8, 24mm Elmarit
Advertisement Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Hi stunsworth, Take a look here Dungeness - fisherman's shelter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cocker Posted April 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2007 Steve, Please don't apologise. Great picture - composition and tonality. And I wouldn't crop at all. The lines running out of the bottom right work well i think. More please
andybarton Posted April 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2007 Don't crop because you'd lose the first sleeper and the rails would be hanging in mid air. Looks like you had a very productive time down there
stunsworth Posted April 20, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 20, 2007 Thanks guys, I was looking for a way to put the old bogeys nearer the bottom of the frame. Andy, I was only there a couple of hours. After 30 mins I was thinking I'd done everything there was to be done. How wrong I was. I saw these disused rails - there were about three or four sets - which I assume were used to bring fish across the shingle from the landed boats and thought I'd have a walk over. That was a good move on my part! It would be good to go back when the sky was more interesting. A location made for Rolo if there ever was one ;-)
JE Posted April 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2007 Steve, I don't know how I missed this one. You've posted some very nice photos from Dungeness. Now that I've see this one I think it's my favorite of the series. Its depth is wonderful and the detail in the foreground and shelter is great. You've really piqued my interest in this strange place. Jonathan
elansprint72 Posted April 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 21, 2007 Best so far; which is saying something! Your M8 monchrome work is excellent.

biglouis Posted April 21, 2007 Share #8 Posted April 21, 2007 Very lovely picture. Such fantastic tones. Can you explain how you processed it, or is this as it came out of the camera? LouisB
stuny Posted April 22, 2007 Share #9 Posted April 22, 2007 Steve - I'd leave it as it is, which increases the feeling of depth. Lovely composition with excellent details, tonal range and contrast.
Guest Lotw Posted April 22, 2007 Share #10 Posted April 22, 2007 I agree with you that there is something unbalanced in the composition. But it cannot be solved I'm afraid. I hiccup against the too large white area right above. There should be a horse there.
stunsworth Posted April 22, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted April 22, 2007 Thanks guys. Louis, it's more or less how it came out of the camera. Converted to b&w using the Alien Skin plugin and then the curves were treaked a little, that's all. Lot, I can see where you are coming from when you suggest a horse or something, but I was trying to convey the desolation of the scenery and was certain that I didn't want any animate object in the frame - whether it be a human or any other animal. Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment.
