As we are posting old favorites, thought I'd upsize this a bit and see how it looks here. Doubt Ron or I will see anything so lovely in July as we aren't heading to Wales..., but one can always hope! :)

Ditto... this is one of your best..look at that light..guess your right about England , William...

You can also see the color pallette of this film..just lovely..the only thing close to this is the Portra 160NC.

Thanks for sharing

Cheers, JRM

William, nice image - you could almost imagine that the plants in the foreground were vines - not much chance of that in Snowdonia :-). The light breaking through in the fore and mid ground lifts the image.

Technically there are a couple of issues with the sky. The highlights in the clouds are burned out and there's an odd magenta cast to some of them, not sure how that happened.

Thanks for sharing.

William

Is this the shot of the Horseshoe Pass, near Llangollen?

If so, I could be a pedant and say that it's not in Snowdonia ( ;) ), but it could be somewhere else. Looks like the Horseshoe Pass. The hill slap bang in the middle looks just like the one with Llangollen castle on it, the one in the shot with the veiling flare. :)

I would agree with Steve about the sky, though. I don't think I noticed this on the previous version you showed, but it's still nicely composed and exposed.

Are you up this way again this year? If so, I will happily show you round Snowdonia myself if you have time.

John,

Thanks. Not too sure about the 160 NC. The Supra is more saturated.

Steve,

Sometimes I have a terrible time getting things to look on the web the way they do in PSE2. I was most concerned to convey the colors in the foreground and probably messed up something else. The print looks fine. I'll try one more time with just Auto Levels and a tiny bit of USM. The cloud is not really blown. Frustrating... :(

Andy,

Naturally you are right. Remember, I'm a tourist. :) We DID drive from here all over Snowdonia though...

Can't take you up on your offer as Ron and I will be playing with cars for the week. I'd need a month and a small fortune to see what I'd like to see and wander where I'd like. :( All Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire this time...

William, the original image is a fine one, and doubtless prints well. It does reproduce on my monitor with a few highlights that are clipped. However, look at the range of tones you have and detail in the darker areas. Some of that comes down to how purist you are regarding altering the image. The magenta cast is visible on my (calibrated) monitor also.

II'll wager, if there's 500 members looking at your image they will see it on their screens 635 ways. Now if you want to consider colour space and profiles......

That's an awful lot of variables. I'd be very pleased to call this image mine just how it is.

And as a PS scholar, love to have your file to try. You know where to find me.

regards

Hoppy

Michael,

Thanks, we got lucky that day and never got wet..., but it was CLOSE! :-) I'll post one of the highest pub in Wales if I can find it...

Geoff,

If the file isn't corrupted, I'll mail it to you. Have at it!

Looks mighty nice second time around William. Being in the right place at the right time is half the battle. Knowing how to take a good picture is the other half.

Your revised attempt cleaned up most of the highlights.

DD,

Love your avatar! :)

Thanks. We were there about half an hour. You are so right. What you see here lasted less than ten seconds. I had the MP in my hands and grabbed it. (By my second frame, the bright spot had passed.) My friend with the Canon DSLR did not. :) Lots to be said for a Leica MP.

I sent the big file to Geoff (Hoppy), so let's see what he can do. The full scan has no problem with the dynamic range, but when I compress it to 240 K and save for web, with PSE2 I have to lose something somewhere. Definitely frustrating...
