andybarton Posted January 13, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted January 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andy, clearly not a specialist dealer in Leica ... I feel that ebay does provide the market price, but it is a faff ! Â Well, they have a lot of Leicas and other cameras in there, but they are a general used dealer, not a Leica specialist. Â I stopped selling on eBay a long time ago. The costs and the risks and the hassle just aren't worth it when selling stuff. IMHO. Â The box of goodies has been sent to Inverness for a commission sale. Even if I get back less than was offered at lunchtime, I don't care.

Archiver Posted January 14, 2014 Share #22 Â Posted January 14, 2014 When I said OK he said can I see the phone? I said no I just want to buy the screen and then he simply refused to sell me one. I've installed and repaired many smashed screens and I tried to explain that to him but he said he couldn't offer a warranty unless he installed it. I said I'm not worried about that I just want the screen. He said sorry but no. Â That just floored me. There I am trying to spend money in his store and he just flat out refuses to sell me one. Cheekily I said OK no worries I'll just buy one of eBay. He didn't like that but I just walked out. Â That's kind of weird. He could easily have said that he can sell you the screen, but not offer you a warranty because you are doing the work yourself. Oh well, some people can't see past their own rules. Â I do what I can to spend my money in local independent stores. Two of my favourite dealers are independents who provide excellent service. And I often go to independent bookshops and similar places, rather than big chains.
dgc Posted January 14, 2014 Author Share #23 Â Posted January 14, 2014 I think that is why I am now waiting at Charles de Gaulle airport waiting to start 6 weeks logging soil and rock so I can one day have a bookstore! I remember spending many an hour (and dollars) in a fantastic bookstore in Moab, full of geological and landscape photography books. And there was no bolt-on coffee shop, which made it twice as special. Â My flight is boarding !
wattsy Posted January 14, 2014 Share #24 Â Posted January 14, 2014 James, I think you are right, history is cyclic so it may only be a matter of time until people return to the high street. Â You would hope so but I don't think the mainstream retailers are very optimistic. Fears mount over empty UK shops
