There is a parallel here to the auto-iso issue. The current programming pays a high respect to expressed wishes rather than implied expectations.

 

And there are a number of us who believe the camera should respect our, oft, logical expectations.

 

I could live with that. But some may disagree.

Yes. This is what computers are for.

I am a human and should not care about trivial things an algorithm is perfectly able to do for me.

 

Profoundly correct. One of the most important applications of software (and information technology in general) is to automate repetitive, tedious, error-prone tasks, which would others be left to us humans.

I get all my lenses coded, where possible, because I too often forget to change from manual to automatic.

The same. And I don’t bother to switch to manual recognition for the few lenses that are uncoded.
