Hi everyone, I never try a Ultron 28mm, but seems many M8 user like it, is it a good Lens, how great is it?

I search the picture taken from Ultron 28mm on Flickr. mostly I think they are under exposure, they appear as gray or dark tone... what is the advantage of the Ultron 28mm? any body can explain?

Thanks

It is not a bad lens. The general pecking order is Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlander.

If speed is the driving factor, then get the Ultron f/2.0. If you want an overall higher quality lens get the Zeiss 28mm f/2.8 Biogon.

That will settle the pecking order, but to try to subjectively quantify the Ultron without published comprehensive test results is really meaningless due to its vast subjectivity when asked if it is "good enough".

I guess you are looking for words of comfort, but I think the decision will boil down to what the upper limit of your funds allow and whether the extra f-stop of the Ultron trumps the better IQ of the Zeiss if the Zeiss is within your financial range.

Ok, I got delivered the Ultron & Elmarti IV.... The Ultron was good but to soft and not detailed enough at 2.0 - which doesn't make any sense for me getting it then.

I used to have the Elmarit 3rd version and I really liked it. The Elmarit IV was unfortunately to stiff to focus and I send it back to the dealer. Right now I am a bit unsure what to take... Gettting an Elmarit III or IV - or get a used 35mm Summicron?

My budget ist max. 1000*€ and I wished to have a 2.0 lense cause of shooting in low light. Any recommendations?

P.s. I also looked for the Zeiss lenses but there I didn't like the color rendering...

...ten years later, the question for a 28mm lens still seems to be popular (as it brings you close to the 35mm full-frame FoV), but meanwhile there are more options.

Many M8(.2) users in the past seem to have decided between the CV Ultron, the Zeiss Biogon, the Elmarit or the Summicron.

In my case, I would like to have it even wider in order to be able to play a bit with DOF and use lower ISO in low light situations. So there is meanwhile a Summilux (with a breathtaking price tag), a Nokton 28/1.5 and the Thypoch Simera 28mm f/1.4 (review on a M10 e.g. here: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-thypoch-simera-28mm-1-4/)

Anyone here who used one of these f/1.4 options on the M8 - or even compared the 28mm Summilux to the Simera?

Meanwhile I got the Thypoch Simera 28mm f/1.4 ASPH.

Fantastic bokeh! To avoid double posts, here is just a link to the post with some pictures:

The silver version looks very charming on the silver M8.2:

The Thypoch Simera is truly excellent for the price, I no longer have it since I bought also an M9 as main M body and I’m more a 35mm guys, but for the M8 was perfect for my tastes. Very nice bokeh wide open and very sharp across the frame stopped down when needed, overall very likeable rendering.
