DavidM9 Posted January 4, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally got the R adaptor for my M240. Need to shoot many more shots under different lighting conditions and in different environments, but I have the following comments so far: 1. The Focus Aid with Focus Peaking and Magnified Image requires to be initiated manually by pressing the front camera button even though the Menu Setting is Automatic. With my M Lenses, the EVF automatically goes into Focus Aid mode as soon as I adjust the lens to focus without the need to press the front camera button. Is this a bug or is there a reason for this? 2. I have noticed less focus peaking with my R Lenses (have tried 180mm APO F2.8 and also 100mm APO F2.8 macro) than with my M Lenses Has anyone else experienced the same or similar issues? MikeEvangelist Posted January 4, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2014 1 - this is normal behavior. Only coupled rangefinder lenses trigger the magnification when focusing. 2- This is likely due to a combination of relative lens speeds and contrast/sharpness. (less sharp lenses show less pronounced peaking.)
steveclem Posted January 4, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2014 I'm intrigued how this all goes for you, best of luck.

By the way, OP, there have been numerous threads about this for more than 6 months. Try searching for them since they are there.
johnbuckley Posted January 5, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2014 David - as I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the adaptor, may I ask if you got yours from a US dealer? JB
jaapv Posted January 5, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 5, 2014 2- This is likely due to a combination of relative lens speeds and contrast/sharpness. (less sharp lenses show less pronounced peaking.) “Sharpness” being an undefined factor is not really a relevant parameter for focus peaking.F.P. being a contrast detection system, lens contrast is. Automatic Focus Aid is triggered by a sensor in the camera that detects the movement of the rangefinder mechanism. As the R lenses are not coupled, the RF does not move, so the Focus Aid cannot be activated automatically. For instance a CV 15 mm lens first version will not trigger Focus Aid either. DavidM9 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks everyone for your comments and the more technical explanation - which makes perfect sense. I got my R adaptor from Singapore just after Christmas from the Leica Gallery store. I am enjoying using my R-100mm 2.8 APO Macro lens and R-180mm 2.8 APO lens on the M240. Due to the longer heavier 180mm lens I am getting a few more blurry shots due to hand shake, so need more practice, but 100mm lens is not a problem.
