Both were and are sold in parallel.

Guest polygamer Posted June 14, 2014 Share #482 Posted June 14, 2014 Hi, last week I went to the International BMW Vintage Vehicle Event at Bad Nauheim. A nice BMW R50 or R 60 I would say. SONY A7, Leica Elmarit 2,8/21 ASPH. The Voigtländer Nokton topic is getting interesting. How can you tell the 2 versions apart? Well, there are engravings on the lens, and a sticker on the box, e.g. for the SC : Voigtlander NOKTON classic 40mm f:1.4 S.C Lens Leica M fit | eBay Very well. But my version has no engravings and no sticker on the box. So is it an SC, an MC, a rare, valuable unmarked specimen, or a cheap copy from China? Owners might have an answer ... Have a nice weekend! Guest polygamer Posted June 18, 2014 Share #493 Posted June 18, 2014 They work better on the A7 Hi, my Voigtländer lenses with 12mm, 15mm and the 4/21 Skopar work better on the A7 than on my M9 due to the SONY lens correction app. The 1,4/40 I have not tried on both yet. The same goes for the 1,8/75. On the other hand, many UWW/WA Leica lenses disappoint on the A7 because of the multiple SONY sensor deficiencies. Guest polygamer Posted June 18, 2014 Share #496 Posted June 18, 2014 There was another reply why Leica lenses don't work that well on the A7 but it has suddenly disappeared :-) Well, this is well understood by now (by most). There is some unpredictability, but this is the consequence of doing your own thing. You are in an unsupported environment, as we say in IT ... towa Posted June 18, 2014 Share #497 Posted June 18, 2014 There are many tests and comments on Leica lenses with the Sony a7® but not so many representative examples (fotos). The issues with WA lenses are well known, but the behaviour depends on the optical constructions too (different retrofocal solutions), not only on the focal length itself, of course. As to vignetting, corner sharpness, (micro)contrast, on the Sony a7 (I tested the 7r too, not that worse as expected) I had very good results with the old Summilux 35 and with the new Summilux 35 asph FLE (a bit better, near perfect). The new Elmarit 2.8/28 asph was disappointing, the version 3 with the lens hood holders is better, version 4 is very unsharp on the Sony. The Elmarit 2.8/24 has some corner unsharpness and vignetting, that can be handled in LR, but is otherwise very good. My favorite lens after the Summilux 35. For me it is a perfect WA focal length in most cases too. I don't know the Elmarit 2.8/21, but the examples in this thread are great (the 2.8/24 is very close in my opinion). I was absolutely surprised with the Super-Elmar 3.8/18. It behaves better than all the elmarits 28. A very good lens on the Sony a7. I did not mention longer focal lengths, but as expected 50 mm and longer don't have any problems with the Sony sensor. Yesterday I was in Wetzlar/Germany and visited Leica Camera and Leica Microscopy. Here are three samples with the Summilux 35 asph FLE on the Sony a7. All uncorrected JPEGs. The second one with 64xND filter and a shutter time of 1/5 s, camera based on a stone. The last one with polarizing filter because of reflections in the vitrine glass. The motives are not optimal for objective tests, but historical highlights. Better examples will follow. towa Welcome, dear visitor! macrobernd Posted June 18, 2014 Share #498 Posted June 18, 2014 They work better on the A7 Wether the Voigtlaender nor the Leica lenses were built to work on the A7. How could it be a shame when a lens won't work well if the cam was constructed years later? Why don't you tell us that it is a shame, that the A7 won't work well with Leica lenses although Sony had the chance to built a sensor for Leica lenses? Why don't you tell us that it is a shame, that the A7 won't work well with Leica lenses although Sony had the chance to built a sensor for Leica lenses? ----------------------------------------------------------------- I agree with you, Bernd. But I saw several photos taken with the M9 and M240, which showed similar issues of unsharp corners - with old and actual Leica lenses. Leica tried to solve this problems by special micro-lense constructions of their chip and software corrections. It is a general problem in short focal length lenses and a flat sensor, which did not arise that way with film emulsions. Kind regards towa
