2wk Posted December 5, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sometimes, not always…when using my Monochrom and sf24D in 2nd curtain sync mode I get a black band across the top of the frame. I might have even got one across the bottom as well. It is about 1/10th the frame. 1st curtain…no problems. What gives?
Advertisement Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Hi 2wk, Take a look here MM + SF24D / 2nd Curtain. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
skinnfell Posted December 5, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2013 Hard to tell without a picture example BUT: Usually when one gets a black band on flash pictures, its because the shutter speed is above the flash sync. Sync on MM is 1/180. So lets say you shoot at 1/250 or above then you will definitely get this problem. Of course this will affect 1st curtain sync as well. Care to show an example with exposure details?
wattsy Posted December 5, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 5, 2013 It is almost certainly a sync speed limitation and has been reported a few times. I don't think it is documented anywhere officially but I think you need 1/125 or slower in 2nd curtain mode to avoid the dark band.
2wk Posted December 5, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted December 5, 2013 Thanks, I figured it must be something like that. But I thought, Leica being such excellent software engineers , they must have addressed that. I switched to 1/125 and it appears to be better. That should be in the manual. Nick_S Posted December 6, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 6, 2013 "That should be in the manual." More than that, the lightning symbol should default to '125 when the second curtain setting is used, if this is the maximum usable speed with that setting.
