hrosell Posted April 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am delighted that I finally received my black M8 (1.092) after waiting for it since last October, and I hope to post some pics soon... if I manage to use C1 with Jamie's profiles as I have no filters yet. In the meanwhile, I have a bureaucratic question: when registering the camera serial nbr via the net to ask for the two free filters, in the automatic instantaneous reply (not the one via e-mail), the following sentence is found: quote Please mail your completed M8 warranty card to Leica Camera Inc. Registration must be completed within 30 days of purchase. unquote The only Warranty Card I received in the box is that small black booklet in German, English and French, which states: quote 3) Warranty claims can onlly be made by submission of this Warrantty Card which has been completed with date of purchase, address and signature of the authorized photo dealer. 4) when submitting claims under warranty, please return the LEICA M8 together with the Warranty Card and a description of the claim to Leica Camera AG or a Leica Camera agency. 5) Tourist may, if required, make use of the agency of the country in which they are travelling (within the terms of the warranty of the Leica Camera AG) by presenting the warranty card. unquote I am a bit tired, it's late here, somehow stressed by the arrival, the batteries are being charged and I can't wait to go out and see for myself after so many months of absorbing the tremendous load of information from the forum. So possibly I am suffering from some dumbness but I understand that the supplied Warranty Card must be kept with the camera for eventual claims or if needed when travelling, so then, would it suffice to mail a photocopy of the Warranty Card? Or am I really supposed to mail the black booklet? Or nothing at all? Sorry for the silly questions, but perhaps someone already knows the correct answer. Thanks, and cheers! Advertisement Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi hrosell, Take a look here Question on M8 registration and Warranty Card. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ylshih Posted April 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2007 In the US there is a single white postcard (in addition to the black booklet) that says "Two Year Warranty Application" on the side that has your info to fill in and with the other side pre-addressed to Leica. Not sure what the practice is for Buenos Aires.
Shootist Posted April 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2007 I would contact the dealer you bought it from and also contact the Leica distributor in your country/region to find out what happened to the warranty card and just how you get waranty service in case of problems. wlaidlaw Posted April 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2007 I bought my M8 in Spain although I a resident in UK and France. I scanned my stamped warranty card and sent that together with a scanned copy of the purchase receipt. I did not get a "send in card" either. The foregoing seems to have worked for filters anyway. LichMD Posted April 18, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 18, 2007 According to an rmail exchange I had with Leica NJ, the online registration is simply to order the two free filters. The warranty card, as described by another poster above, has to be filled out and mailed in to make sure your camera is covered. I'd ask your dealer directly. Englander Posted April 18, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 18, 2007 Horacio! I am glad you finally got your camera. In the USA, there is a card that is supposed to be mailed back by the purchaser. When I have purchased equipment outside the USA, the dealer takes the warranty document, stamps it with the store's indicia and sends it to the manufacturer while giving me the little black book also with the store's indicia. Thus the instructions for USA-purchasers and non-USA purchasers are different. I suggest following Wilson's procedure to obtain your filters. Looking forward to seeing some great images from you, Joe
