Its a beautiful shot man. I love the separation and the subtle bokeh.

What lens were you using, what kind of flash and light position if that's ok to ask?

My trusty 35mm summilux ASPH @ F1.4.

Full manual exposure and a full manual flash: Lumo Pro LP180 @1/32 power output bounced off a Phottrix 45" Umbrella on stand from left side of frame.

Interesting photo.

Is there any possibility of using the pocketwizard without buying the handgrip? For instance could it be used in the hot shoe and transmit that information to an off camera flash?

I have never used flash with my Leica and there are times when it could be useful.

Yes. The Pocketwizard transmitter could be slotted into the M240's hotshoe location.

In my case, I find the EVF-2 indespensible as the scene was too dark to focus by optical finder. The EV-2 tilt angle viewer also provided me better egonomics in taking the shot with my camera almost touching the floor.

Can you tell me the name of the grip the Pocketwizard is attached to? Also, where did you purchase?

Thank you.

I gave up waiting for the 14498 SCA adapter kit to arrive in SG dealers/Leica store.

So the alternative $10 dollar solution was to mount the Pocketwizard Plus III transmitter onto a generic coldshoe bracket that gets bolted onto the MF handgrip's tripod mount and connect the Pocketwizard Plus III transmitter via the PC Syn port on the rear of the MF handgrip.

I can't seem to find the bracket you have, have searched high and low for it at all standard Internet sites-no luck!

I am in the US, can you tell me the name of it and where you got it.

Thank you in advance!

I located my flash bracket at a local camera store.

Hi! :)

Do anybody of you, shooting the M with triggers, synchronize over the X Sync speed?

In the picture of Silbeer he shot at 1/250, that could be named hyper sync, isn´t it?

I would like to buy a couple of nice triggers, the best for M, because I had ebay ones and are very bad, the next time I should pay once time, no more.

Wich triggers???

Hyper sync with M, thats the target

Continuing Pablo's question: Does the MFgrip support HSS flash such that you can use an SF 58 (or even other units) "off-camera" in this mode? Up until now it's only possible with an SF 58 directly attached to the camera's hot shoe, not via cable or trigger I believe ...

Thanks very much for your answers,

Norbert

I think, yes

look at minute 5:00

read about the sca leica protocol, just with leica flashes

but not off camera, you need the cable

That accesory was listed in leica.com, but I couldnt find it after your question.

read in the handgrip specs and leica manual

Unless you need TTL these Pocket Wizards are a rich man's daft wet dream and complete and utter overkill. Not to mention a waste of money. Unless you need TTL.

I have 4 of the mark 11 units sitting in a drawer somewhere gathering dust.

Buy something small and equally excellent if all you use is M on the flash.

I use the Calumet kit, really cheap too.

Lots of this sort of stuff on eBay inc' from China & all work a treat too.

im not agree about chinese ebay quality

I have tried yongnuo and are bad, too bad.

It doesnt hold on the hotsue , are very very slow, battery disasters.... bad

Im am looking for the best ones, I dont want to buy some triggers for a short time and buy better ones before.. I would like to buy a trigger and forget it for a looooong time and be happy with them

if pocket wizard is the best trigger for an M I will buy PW for sure

spend money in a Leica and use ebay stuff is not a good idea.... less for a pro

PW are very big, maybe too much, thats wright

But small one, build with quality, small and possible to shot 1/4000 out of PW, is it possible? i think not

maybe pixel king? dont know

---

coming back to the question...

Silbeers, could you tell me something about the triggers...

did you tried to shot in the fastest times of the Leica shutter?

1/1000 I think is enough for me, but 1/4000 will be great!!

I work with bowens flash, not hand flashes..

1/180s is the X syn speed of Leica M.

For my needs of 'fill in' flash, pushing 1/250s is not an issue.

BTW I take exposure from camera meter based on background w/o flash, set camera to manual exposure (fix it) as only my subjects are underexposed.

Next set power of manual flash to 1/2 power and start trial shoots,...I finally settled at 1/32 power of manual flash as the choice amount of 'fill in' light in my sample shot shown.

The limitation of no eTTL wireless trigers dedicated for Leica M240 makes HSS flash wireless impossible. The MF handgrip SCA adapter 14498 will allow HSS support from SF58 (14488). Any off camera flash using eTTL or HSS will be limited by hotshoe extention cord. I do not take much sports or high speed movement photography so I do not miss HSS flash.

However I find HSS useful in situation of 'filling in' subject with strong back lighting @ a bright daylight when full apeture of fast lenses are employed to keep shallow DOF. So a very limited 'fill in' from direct flash maybe accepteble to get a decent shot.

Silbeers, you can use a photometer for the flash exposure

But...

I know 1/180 is the X Sync, that is not the problem.

You shot your camera with off camera radio triggering flashes over the X Sync.

Thats named Hyper Sync.

Well.

With the triggers you have... have you shot your camera over that speed, maybe 1/500 for example?

Could you try please to shoot your Leica with the triggers at fastest speeds???

There is no info in internet about hyper sync with Leica and I am getting mad so...

If you can trigger the flash at 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, 1/2000, 1/4000 your Leica it is perfect!!

thanx for your answer
