Looking for a Film R

As I posted early they're all good/great...

Compared to any other camera manufacturer the R bodies are very well built IMO.

FWIW... Very early Canon F-1s (black paint) are very similar in feel and function and these are at almost give away prices right now. I actually have one and it's a beauty... Lots of brassing. ;)

The Nikon Fs are comparable but I've always thought they were over rated and ugly.

Pentax, Olympus etc... Good cameras but built at a "different" price point and it feels like it when you pick one up.

Minolta's have always been under rated. It's a shame really considering the build and reliability.

Contax are over rated IMO. Good cameras but not fantastic.

I especially appreciate my R6.2. The film wind lever is the smoothest I've ever used. I would guess the other Rs are similar.

Lots of negative stuff has been written about the R cameras online but I think this is more about the initial cost of the R system compared to other manufacturers.

I do wonder if these "reviewers" have ever actually owned one long term.

I too have an old F-1, packed up with a couple of lenses ready to grab as I go out the door.

What about an R only lens? (SL cams)

Depends... some R-only lenses only need the SL cam added, others will need an SL flange as well (or slight modification to the SL's flange), some will not work due to mirror box clearance problems. My original 280mm f/4 APO was built as an R-only lens and converted to 3-cam. Works perfectly on the SL and on the R8.
