Syncing two or more M (240)s

Hi, has anyone tried to time sync two or more Leica Ms'? If I am shooting an event/wedding it would be nice to have all the images shown in chronological order.

Canon have Eos Utility which will allow me to sync my Canons to my computer time. So I sync both Canons to the computer, and the sync is perfect. Now all the pictures I have taken at the event show up in order. This is great for taking captions, in that my captions and shots will be in order.

Other than trying to sync both camera manualy, which is fiddly and prone to error, is there a utility/app/pixie dust that I can use?

Dear jto555,

You can use the multifunctional grip to synchronize your two Ms.

With the grip mounted, the M will adjust its time according to the correct GPS time at your location.

If you do this on both your Ms before the shoot, the time should be accurate, at least for one day.

The clock on my M is extremely inaccurate, as it advances more than 10 minutes during one month.

This means you will probably have to synchronize you two Ms before every shoot.

I am quite amazed how Leica manages to make the clock so inaccurate!

Best regards

If you use Capture One as a developer, and put all the images in one folder, then there is a pull down menu under the large image display, to give different sort options, when viewing in Library mode. As long as you have synched the internal clocks between your two cameras at the start of the shoot and select date as your sort order, the images should then display in the film strip, in the order of time taken.

Thanks Trond, I am hoping not to use the grip. At a cost of about €800 it is too much for me.

Hi Wilson, syncing the two internal clocks is exactly what I am looking to do. I am hoping Leica have a utility for this.

As far as I can see, if you set the two cameras side by side and set the minutes at the same time (much easier with two people: “3-2-1-Set”), then the minutes tick up at the same time. I assume that setting the minute, sets the seconds to zero when you “set” the time. I have not tried it with my M240 but this worked with my M8 and M9, when I wanted to do exactly what you want when using two cameras/lenses on a shoot and have shots display in the correct sequence.

You just need correct time on each camera, and setting your cameras time is much quicker , less fiddly and easier than it takes to ask about an app, download it, install it, work it out and do it.

All you have to do is watch a clock and press SET when the clock strikes 0. Do you really need an app for that?

Exactly what I do (and the same with the Canon kit I often use for events alongside the Ms...)

Hi Chris, try the Eos Utility. It is so easy to do and gets the cameras perfectly in sync. I used to do it manualy but you can get errors, with the utility, no errors.
