losta Posted April 16, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I dropped my 21 asph elmarit and 50 nocti at Leica in Allendale, NJ for coding on March 28th. I just got a call today (April 16th) that they are ready after only two and a half weeks. I'd go run out and get them today if it were not for the big Nor Easter that dumped 8.22 inches of rain here between yesterday and today closing many of roads and slowing everything down. Â Now my next dilemma, do I drop off my 24 elmarit or wait until after my big trip to Santa Fe and then drop that off? I guess I'll bring it and ask them if they could have it done in time, otherwise I'll wait. The 24 is one of my favorites! Â Good Job Leica Allendale! wattsy Posted April 16, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 16, 2007 I think the local service centres are now performing some (or all) of the lens coding. I enquired today with Leica UK about getting one of my uncoded lenses coded and was told that it would be done in Milton Keynes by one of their service people on a two week turnaround. Might be the same for NJ?
losta Posted April 16, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 16, 2007 Yes, much faster than I expected. I figured it was done locally but heard that parts were sparse. Â I had just looked at your M8 travel gallery. It's always interesting to see others views of NY. I enjoyed your gallery, have you heard of JPG magazine? Check out jpgmag.com they are a really interesting user contribution based magazine their latest submission request is America. Â I love traveling in the UK but with the dollar so low against the pound sterling it's not a good time lately. I did a project on the upper Thames in the mid ninties, lovely place! Â The prices in London are high enough when you earn your living in pounds sterling. I can only imagine how expensive it must seem to Americans at the moment. Might be the same for NJ? Â Ian: Â When I asked Leica about coding, they said there are only three places that do it, NJ, Milton Keynes and Solms. For the other country agents to do it, Leica will not supply the parts unless the agent invests a huge amount of money in new test equipment. Â Is MK a Leica owned distributor? It might explain why they are the only distributor doing it other than Leica NJ, which is a Leica company.

But if it needs to go to Germany it's a much longer wait.  That's good to know. Also, to be fair to Leica in Solms, they checked three of my lenses (plus M8) for focus issues and did the coding in a turnaround period of around two weeks or so earlier this year. losta Posted April 17, 2007 Author Share #10  Posted April 17, 2007 I picked up my two coded lenses today from Leica Allendale after less than 2.5 weeks. I brought my 35 cron and 24 elmarit and they were really nice when I told them I'm going on a big trip to Santa Fe the end of next week they said they would have them by next Thursday or Friday. Thanks Leica! Now if we can just fix the filter issue.
