Nice little piece on Natgeo Artifacts: Photographer Tomas van Houtryve | PROOF

It is about what's in his page. One thing that surprised me positively is that he carries a Leica M digital and shoots 85% using a 35mm.

What really surprised me, and the reason for starting this thread, is that he carries with him a Polaroid PoGo printer to hand out to people whom he just took a photo of but also to put into a note book, etc...

Question I have is -- has anyone in the forum used the same? Experiences? Better newer equipment? Open to any and all info on this.

Thanks,

Steve

These pogos are wonderful devices for what they are IMO. Worth their weight and many of these little prints will give far more joy than your finest and largest fine art prints ever could. But the pogos need a 'pictbridge' connection - that means the M8 and M9 are out and the typ 240 as well, I think. The pana-leicas would probably work with it. Canon selphy is a slightly larger alternative that would solve the pictbridge problem

Anyone tried Eye-Fi to Mobile Phone to PoGo ????

From what I read using an iPad or iPhone as an intermediary is out ......

Eye-fi works fine with an M .... and my Galaxy will send photos via bluetooth....

I may give it a go ....... looks like fun....

For years we carried a very small Polaroid camera when visiting emerging countries and delighted the locals with photos of themselves (You can see evidence of than on our site in places like Laos, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and elsewhere). When we could no longer get film for the little camera we got a PoGo in early 2009 for a visit to Uganda & Rwanda. We used a Panasonic equivalent to a C-Lux with the Pogo (and sometimes my D2 - There were limitations to what cameras the printer could accept) and those photos too were a solid hit, plus three of our guides asked us to get PoGos for them. The biggest downside was the process drained the battery in 10 or 20 prints (maybe less) and Polaroid was not selling spare batteries. I'm sure the current printer interfaces with many more cameras, but only in interface mode, meaning that the camera is out of picture taking action during printing. I'm sure you can get spare batteries now, and strongly urge you to get at least two spares and a charger. Polaroid and Fuji offered new, compact instant cameras not long ago and might still do so -- the Fuji using Polaroid type film, and the Polaroid having a PoGo built in. Also, the one minute wait for the business card size print to fully emerge from the printer often seemed interminable, especially when anxious subjects were waiting.

PoGo plus Eye-Fi via my Samsung Galaxy works fine ..... surprisingly ....:D

I've set the M to DNG+JPG ...... low res jpg with contrast and saturation on high.

Eye-Fi sends these instantly to my mobile phone (even the accompanying DNG's take only a few seconds..... in contrast to slow upload speed to my computer).

Using Share.... Bluetooth .... send the chosen image to the the printer.... and about a minute later a surprisingly good 4"x3" polaroid print appears.

No wires and it all works like magic.

On the standard settings these are a bit pale and washed out ..... but boosting the JPG sats and contrast corrects this.

From Photo to print is only a couple of minutes ...... :)

.... all I need now is a use for it ....... :o

I was looking online and it appears that PoGo is no more, if so, any replacement ideas? Idea, for me, is having something to print what the m9 took and not take a second small instant camera like the fuji. It does look like a fun gizmo to have along and make friends along the way.
