To Paul: I have tried another cable that works well with my Canon cameras and my Canon's never show in the finder when I'm tethered either to Lightroom or C1Pro. Tether failed on my iMac and MBPro so it's not the computer hardware, especially since my Canon cameras are working fine. I'm still digging with some folks for solutions. Hope to have an answer soon!

I wonder if it's your USB port (in grip). Try plug it in to you computer and an open Image Capture (it's in the utilities file in applications i think). See if it recognises it. At least just to eliminate that possibility.

Hello Paul: Using the LeicaM USB cable attached to the M, image capture did nothing, did not recognize the camera. I plugged the same cable into my Canon DSMKIII and Image capture did wake up, but the camera did stay busy and would not fire.

I trashed the Lightroom preference file (as suggested by Adobe) and I used the LeicaM cable tethered to my Canon and the tether worked fine in Lightroom with the MKIII, but again the Leica was not recognized by LR.

So it could be the port. I'm going to relay this info back to my dealer and see if he might feel the same. No prob, as I was only waiting 8 months for this MF Back :( I do appreciate the suggestions!

Hello to everyone that attempted solutions for my tether issue.

-I reinstalled LR5

-USB is set properly

-Still will not tether either to my MacBook Pro or iMac both running Snow Leopard, not Mavericks. Next week I am taking delivery of a new MBPro Retina running Mavericks, but that'll be a different problem given all of the concerns/complaints I've heard with Mavericks compatibility with both LR and C1.

I am having no problems at all with either LR5.2 or C1 - 7.1.4 Pro and Mavericks on a 2009 MBP 13” unibody. I think the problems folks were having may have related to a graphics issue on the Retina MBP’s, for which I believe Apple has now released a fix.

I have to admit to being surprised that tethering would work direct to LR, as Leica originally said they would release a version of Image Shuttle for the M240 for this purpose. You would receive the code for the download with the MF grip. You then would go on to your space on the Leica website to find the link, just like you can with the S camera.

According to Leica UK, it was supposed to be on the “Software for Image editing” page of the Owners Section on Leica-Camera.com. Something is not working properly on that page (should we be surprised given the entire FUBAR of the MF grip scenario). My M240 does not even appear on that page but only my M9, even though both my M240’s are registered on the equipment page and have been since March and June.

Come on Leica - do please finally try and get something right!

Waidlaw, I'm thrilled that you also have everything working on C1Pro & LR, both with the Mavericks OS running. Next week I'm taking delivery of a new MBPro 15 retina, with maxed specs and of course Mavericks preinstalled. Given that I'm still on snow leopard on 2 and 3 year machines, maybe that'll be the fix to my connectivity issues!

Early this morning, I received an email from Leica tech support; Image Shuttle is not yet released for the M. She did not say anything about an ETA for it's release. You think it'd be the same as Image Shuttle for the S, but apparently not

I've tried to read this thread carefully and think my issue has not been addressed: Has anyone been able to download the grip's free Shuttle software, needed for tethering? I don't see it on the Leica downloads website and I am unable to register the multifunctional grip there because the site works by menu category item only and there is no item for this grip. Any information, anyone? Thanks. Tom

Can you go to My Products and add the grip?

If not, then ownersarea@leica-camera.com and software-support@leica-camera.com

There are two answers just above your post that suggest that Shuttle is not available yet.

Tom,

As Lou says in his post, sadly Leica have not got round to writing or at least releasing the software to tether the M240 via the MF grip as yet. It may be due 2014 or 15 or whenever. What with the lug issue, lock ups, overheating, missing MF grip, missing R to M adapter, the whole M240 debacle could become an object lesson at business schools, of how not to handle the release of your flagship product.

IMHO the software should be an app to tether to a tablet rather than a program to tether to a computer. A tablet is a far friendlier object to tether to. It is amazing that a tiny company like Phase One, whose camera sales must be a fraction of Leica’s, issued an app to couple their Phase camera to tablets, within a month or so of its release.

Leica Image Shuttle is not utterly required for shooting tethered—you can just as well use Lightroom 5's Tethered Capture feature which offers basically the same functionality as Leica Image Shuttle will.

Contrary to what the manual says, Leica Image Shuttle is not ready for download just yet. So we'll have to wait just a few more days ... or weeks ... or months ... or years. In the meantime, use Lightroom.

[...] IMHO the software should be an app to tether to a tablet rather than a program to tether to a computer [...]

In spirit you are right. Look at all the highly effective hacks for Asian cameras that make cameras for the rest of us.

Leica's locked-up philosophy is just so stupid.

Where is their head?
