bideford Posted October 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I admit that one of the attractions (to me) for the M240 is the ability to use a wider range of lenses (given the availability of an adapter) that the EVF/live view brings. My father had a Pentax SP500 with three lenses, all Super Takumer's - 35mm 1:3.5, 55mm 1:2, 135mm 1:3.5. Call me sentimental if you wish, but I would really like to use these lenses on my own camera (yes I could use the SP but that's not my point). Be nice to capture my kids with lenses that captured me! Anyone yet tried any of these lenses on an M? And the big question is - how will these lenses stack up against similar Leica's? Apologies to the "you have an M so use M lenses" set but my reasons are a little more personal than this logic implies. Not that I would not enjoy a Noctilux .95 (or a host of other Leica glass)!! Advertisement Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Hi bideford, Take a look here Pentax M42 lenses on M240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bephoto Posted October 27, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2013 They should work fine, Old lenses have a different image character. Leica M 240 is the best camera for that purpose, I got my share of Leica lenses but recently had a Canon FD 55mm 1.2 ASPH to play with. incredible lens! I actually recommend using other lenses on Leica M 240: 1. because you can! 2. to appreciate Leica quality 3. and time capsule effect that you are looking for
01af Posted October 28, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 28, 2013 My father had a Pentax SP500 with three lenses, all Super Takumars—35 mm 1:3.5, 55 mm 1:2, 135 mm 1:3.5. [...] I would really like to use these lenses on my own camera ... No problem. The Novoflex LEM/CO adapter will handle that. And the big question is—how will these lenses stack up against similar Leica lenses? There's no doubt that modern Asph lenses outperform 50-year-old glass ... but that's not the question really. If you like the old lenses' performance and rendition on film then you'll love them on the M (Typ 240). To get an idea, have a look here.
MarkP Posted October 28, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 28, 2013 I'm about to try some Super-Takumars (35 & 50mm) on the weekend. I'll post the results then.
bideford Posted October 28, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks MarkP. What adapter are you planning on using? I have found a Photodiox M42 to LM (type 2) on Amazon but it does say to use a type 1 with Super Takumar's -I do not know why and I cannot find a type 1 adapter! I have tried emailing Photodiox but no reply as yet. James
