The iCare in the article is canvas and probably what you refer to as plastic. It doesn't really matter what it is, because it it take a lot of beating and scratches without actually looking other than new. It keeps the surface despite rain, dust, cold, sun. It is quid amazing, so whatever and however they came up with it originally, it works.

The LV 'marketing' is that their stuff works and look like new after years of abuse. It's the handcraft and knowhow, not due to exotic materials.

i worked in fashion world and i know how are done LV bags, and all materials they use

what you call canvas its called "Damier", its all plastic, very resistant to scratch but anyway plastic

anyway i have seen tick leather bag (same material as old "doctor" bags ) that are still alive after one century (seen and touched with my eyes and hands)

exotic materials? if you consider leather an exotic materials ....

anyway with half price (or even 1/4) i can buy a Prada or Iceberg 100% leather bag that its even better then LV (as i told i have experience in fashion world so i can recognize well handcrafted bags ;-)

but i repeat, LV has incredible good marketing to have such customers in big quantities..........

Thorsten, this is really fascinating stuff! It makes me wonder what the inside of Uma Thurman's dressing trailer looked like when she made movies ;). (Intended as a high compliment, so hope it reads that way).

Thanks for sharing!

Peter

Thanks :-)

Backup passport is ... if I told you, I would have to kill you.

No, it is an extra passport. I travel with two, and I have an extra when I have to send in for visa or something and travel with the other at the same time. It is fairly common to have it for business travelers.

I know a great number of Americans doesn't even have one passport, but it is actually easy to get a passport, and also an extra passport for Americans (I know because Joy got one too).

You can apply for an extra passport. It is quite common in most countries I would assume. Usually you have to have a legitimate need for it; Business travelers, or other needs that causes you to travel a lot, as Thorsten said.

It is very nice to have. One passport in the jacket pocket and one in the carry-on while traveling from place to place (if the carry-on is stolen or lost you still have one in your jacket), and one in the hotel safe and one in your jacket/bag while walking around.

Loosing a passport and being a long way from your country embassy can be a real pain in the ...
