Looks good on my 4 year old 17" MacBook Pro.

Nice new Activity Monitor!

Anybody noticed any problems yet?

I get this Error Message when trying to update for example Aperture:

We could not complete your update.

Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple.

I don't know if this also applies to your problem downloading Aperture:

German users who bought iWork or iLife in the past not by downloading from the AppStore but on a disc found out they couldn't upgrade the software for free.

There is a workaround: Change you settings under "Region and Language" from "Germany" and "German" to US" and "English" - and you can download the updates for free - and change your settings back afterwards if you like.

Obviously the AppStore isn't bug free yet at the moment. Perhaps one has to wait for a couple of days, until they fix it.

I already see two things that make the upgrade worthwhile.

First, I use two monitor, and having the menu bar in both monitor is great. Plus if you have Safari open on one monitor and Photoshop in another, there is a menu bar for each application.

Second, finder permits tabbing. From what I understand, the resulting functionality will allow you to move folders around much easier. I have found dragging files around to be a pain in the past

We'll see what else lurks further down.

Everything seems to be running staggeringly slow after the upgrade. Not sure why - mid-2010 21.5 inch iMac with 12 GB of RAM.

As a data point, I noticed no change in performance after installing. 18 month old Mac mini server with 16gb ram and solid state drive.

Fwiw ... I have upgraded 3 Macs to Mavericks. The first was my 2011 iMac, next my 2012 MacBook Air. It all works fine, no problems - except the new version of iMovie results in a horrible, non-intuitive and almost incompatible transition from the previous version of iMovie.

However, upgrading my 2012 Mac Mini Server - the most powerful of the 3 - has resulted in a dramatic slowdown of the system. After attempting to tweak the system for hours I have decided to do a clean install of Mavericks - as some have suggested on the Apple forum. Not looking forward to this, and if it doesn't work I will go back to The previous version. Sometimes I just find myself spending so much time keeping technology current with upgrades, updates, etc... Maybe that is why I enjoy shooting film for a change.

Biggest issue I have run into with Mavericks is that at present there is no good way to install Bootcamp and Windows 8. There are some workarounds messing with some of the boot and EFI software that may or may not be a good idea. The Apple support forums are full of discussions on this. I'll wait for a stable release to install bootcamp and windows 8.

If you are upgradeing multiple Macs you can run into some issues because the Aperture Library compatible with 10.9 is not readable under 10.8.

Once all your data is upgraded to 10.9 and all it associated tweeks everything seems fine except the bootcamp problem.

I did a clean install of Mavericks on my Mac Mini Server. Big difference in performance. The machine is faster than when it was new. The actual installation of OSxMavericks does not take long, but migrating data on and off the main hard drive is tedious. I now have it set up such that one of the internal hard drives holds the operating system and applications. The other internal drive and my external thunderbolt drive hold all my photos, LR catalog, data, etc. The next time I need to do a clean install it should be a streamlined process.
