Malcrometer Posted October 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Just joined the forum. I came across an old Leica, and am trying to find some info on it. From all the websites that date the camera by serial number (34984) it appears to have been made in 1930, but the camera itself seems to be a Model II, which wasn't made until 1932. What am I missing, or is this camera an anomaly. Thanks in advance for any help. Malcolm
Advertisement Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Hi Malcrometer, Take a look here serial number doesn't match camera model. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted October 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2013 No anomaly to be feared. It was common practice with screw mount Leicas, that they changed older models (Leica I) to newer ones (Leica II). The serial number was not changed. So if there are no other indicators for a fake, you have an original Leica from 1930, "updated" (which often meant built new) years later. If you can show a photo of the camera, one could guess when this was made.
Malcrometer Posted October 18, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted October 18, 2013 Thanks. I thought that might be a possibility. I tried to attach a couple of photographs, but no luck. I'll try again. jc_braconi Posted October 19, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2013 Now it needs to be "upcleaned"
Malcrometer Posted October 19, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted October 19, 2013 Any suggestions on " upcleaning " ? The shutter seems to work at all speeds, and no obvious holes in the curtains. The lens is dirty, but seems ok, except that it is difficult to pull out. I was planning on cleaning it up and running a roll of film through it. It also came with a 50mm f2 Summitar from 1946, a beautiful piece of glass.
