G'day,

I'm thinking of buying a 1950's Jupiter 8 lens to mount on my screwmount 111. Up to 1960, I think, this lens came with a focus tab. My question is this- can anyone advise whether the tab will clear the slow speed dial when the lens is screwed on?

I have had an Industar-22 lens that just scrapped past the dial when mounting.

Any general observations about this lens are welcome as well.

Many thanks.

I think it is someway easier to find an item without focus tab : indeed, I think they are more common (and very cheap) on the market. Anyway, I think that PROBABLY the tabbed version does not interfere with the slw speeds dial : if you look at this pic, my visive feeling is that the tab does not protrude more than the one of, say, a Summaron E 39 or a Summicron 50 rigid in SM

As any other Russian lens, the Jupiter can bring some surprise... I know of people that had to have the lens adjusted for correct coupling with Leica RF; also, if you find a "new" black Jupiter 8 , keep in mind that it was made also with the 39x1 thread mount of the Zenit B... to say, a "Leica screw mount" but without rangefinder coupling... given that the Jupiter is often sold by "unprofessional" dealers, this is a detail that can be not clearly stated.

Many thanks Luigi, yes it can be an enlightning retail experience to deal with FSU sellers and one cannot ask too many questions I have found.

I will be avoiding the 'new' version in favour of a 50's model and risk around AUS$60 delivered.
