esophoria Posted October 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) May I ask this knowledgeable group what Flash do you use with your M 240? Additionally, how do you set it up to work as effectively as you can. Thank you for the advice.
Advertisement Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Hi esophoria, Take a look here Which Flash?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kdriceman Posted October 16, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 16, 2013 I use a Lumopro 160 manual flash. It's a well built, highly adjustable and powerful flash, but it is not TTL enabled. I have never been satisfied with TTL metering on any of my camera/flash units (although I haven't tried the Leica flashes because, well, the pricing is ridiculous). I use this on-camera and off camera with a wireless trigger. Sadly, there is no pc jack on the M240 so I can't use the EVF and flash at the same time. I simply use a flash meter for exposure control most of the time. When I can't use a meter I'll either shoot/chimp/adjust or simply go by experience. I really prefer the manual control of the flash power, shutter speed and aperture to TTL.

I really prefer the manual control of the flash power, shutter speed and aperture to TTL. I do the same thing. Albiet with my MP, and with a Fuji X100. I recently got my 240 less than a week ago; but i assure you i'll be using the same process that I used on the 240. The Flash: Fuji EFX 20 Advantages: Small, manual control, easy to adjust dials. AAA batteries Disadvantages: recharge could be faster. Dial easy to knock out. On the back of my Fuji EFX20, I write down the distances and power output I like. (EI400, F/8, 1.5Metres, 1/8th power) That's all I need to know. Then the rest is just conversions. EI400, F8, **3 metres**, "1/2" power... ... Add power or take away power based on how you like to shoot. With a bit of practice, it becomes second nature. Currently, I am looking for a good off camera cord to use on the 240. viramati Posted October 16, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2013 The leica SF58 is the best flash to use on the M. Though large and expensive it gives you full TTL flash and most importantly HSS TTL so you can you it for fill flash above the sync speed of 1/180 sec
Fgcm Posted October 16, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 16, 2013 Second best is SF24. Not as powerful as SF58, but light and small. SF24 recycles quite fast. Using other brands, you loose TTL metering. So, SF58 has best features, SF24 is more portable Try one at your dealer's Franco
Hookeye Posted October 16, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 16, 2013 There was someting very wrong with the communication between the M(240) and the SF-58 in the past. But these appear to have been solved with the new M(240) firmware. As far as I can see the pair now works as intended.
