kaninsexy Posted October 4, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I do own the used m9 with already expired Leica warranty for a year now and new m240 with 2 year warranty from Leica. My question is if I want to keep my m9 + kit, I really think I need to take an insurance that could cover against thief so any suggestion? And for the m240 does my Leica warranty also cover against thief as well or not? By the way, I live in Australia for almost 2 years now and will be living in UK next October 2014 for about a year but I'm a citizen of Thailand. Thanks! earleygallery Posted October 4, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2013 Warranty covers faulty equipment, not theft! You need to contact local insurance co's and either take out a specific policy for your camera gear or add it to any household cover you may have. kaninsexy Posted October 4, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted October 4, 2013 Thanks that's what I thought. Most of insurance I google mostly covered for a citizen for a specific country like UK or US. And I couldn't find one that actually covered worldwide. Still, is there any good company you could recommend me with a reasonable premiums. Thanks Warranty covers faulty equipment, not theft! doolittle Posted October 4, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2013 If you already have house hold insurance ring them up and see if they can cover your equipment for 'All risks', ask them want length of time they cover for travel.

Jeff S Posted October 7, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 7, 2013 If you already have house hold insurance ring them up and see if they can cover your equipment for 'All risks', ask them want length of time they cover for travel. +1 Apart from household contents, a better bet (if available) would be a rider to your home policy that covers collectibles. In the US, I've been able to do this for decades, typically paying a few hundred dollars per year to cover $20+ thousand in equipment. I've always had premium home policies, so the riders have been available through the same companies, with full replacement value of gear (including price appreciation), no deductible, and covering all loss, worldwide, even as a result of my own stupidity. I have always insured my M10 and now M10-R under a policy entitled "Photographers Combined Insurance" fromProfessional Photographers Insurance Brokers (https://photoinsurance.com.au/). The policy is marketed for professionals, but amateurs are covered, they just can't access the professional elements (reshoots/studio etc). It covers all loss or damage during local and worldwide travel, shipment and usage for Australian domiciled owners. My policy has a general excess of $250, plus an extra excess for theft from locked car. While quite expensive, a worthwhile investment to allow me to always carry my camera without angst.
