Embed name into photograph

Does anyone know of a way to automatically embed a name into the metadata of a photo when it is taken? JP Caponigro recently had an article in Outdoor Photographer on how to do it with Canon and Nikon and it would be nice to be able to do it with the M8 other than batch processing later on.

Not possible at the moment at least.

I think it may be one of the requests on Guy's list for Leica.

I'd say you should probably look into doing so with you image import program.

I second the request, my wife and I both shoot with M8's ingest our images same time. We are used to having our names embedded in the file, before we edit and hit the batch rename button. For now, we are doing it with the software, but it's just another step in the workflow porcess.

Guy put it on the laundry list to Leica. Leica’s official response can be read in this thread, see Question No 9.

I agree that this is a pretty important feature (and something that I have grown used to with digital since acquiring a Canon D30 about six years ago).

Obviously it is better to have the name embedded whilst the DNGs are still in the camera but as a stopgap measure (until Leica introduce the feature) I suspect something could be done using fairly simple applescripting and the automator feature of OS X. Unfortunately, I've never got to grips with either of these technologies so cannot help.
