I recently gave a couple people a link to the "Anatomy of the Leica M8" thread http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/21331-anatomy-leica-m8.html in International Digital Forum.

One reported to me:

When I enter the page and read the article all is fine, but when I want to see the images, I get the following Error Message:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

What is going on?

The other told me:

Boy what a nightmare. Took the time to register and wait to get clearance which took a day. Once I was supposedly registered and cleared, it would not let me have access to the pictures, but could read the story.

Anything I can suggest to them?

Thanks!

Images are only viewable by members. You would have to give them your account name and password and trust them not to get you a yellow card from the moderators:D. Or a red one:rolleyes:.

The second guy who created an account...did he log on properly? Maybe there is a wait time for account activation?

Thanks, Rob. That's what I figured.

I did just hear back from the second guy, and he said he was successful accessing the images a couple hours ago. So I think you're right, it just takes a little time for full access to become available.

The only other thing you might notice is that some images are placed by hyperlink to another URL rather than being uploaded at the site. These are the ones you can see if you are not logged on, and which is how some people sneak nearly 1gig 960/x images onto their photo forum thread.

Thanks for your help!

At least one of the two got on board and was impressed, as I said above. I'm still waiting to see what has happened to the other.

I had wondered about the links you mention, so you've been doubly helpful!

I saw this just a few minutes ago, so here are the official informations...

There may be four different reasons why you can't see images

1. You are not registered to the forum

2. You are not logged in.

3. You registered a short time before and the account wasn't activated by me.

4. You changed your password and didn't acknowledge it

Solutions:

1. Register. ;)

2. Log in. If you are logged out automatically sometimes, make sure you activate the "remember me" option

3. Be patient - after some hours your account should work. I'm soryy for this delay but because of trolls and spammers I have to check all new accounts.

4. Check your mails carefully, you SPAM mailbox too, if you missed a message from the forum. Some changes have to be acknowledge in order to prevent abuse.

If these suggestions don't help, don't hesitate to write me a message via the contact form:

http://www.leica-camera-user.com/sendmessage.php

Please give me some time to answer (normally 24 h or less) as I have a fulltime job (not the forum), a family and am living after Middle European Daylight Saving Time.

Hope this helps!

Andreas

I recently had a similar experience. I've been a member for a few months and had no problem accessing this forum from either work or at home. I was fully able to see the images as well. Then one evening, I came home to my computer, got on the Leica Camera Users Forum and was not able to get FULL admittance. Images did not open and when I tried to click on the image url, I got the same messages as you.

Well a couple of nights ago I realized that something on my own computer must have changed at home, since I could still get full access at work. Solution? I went into my internet accessibility icon and found that I had changed one of my firewall levels from Medium to High. When I lowered this to the normal level where it had been before, I was again able to fully access the forum.

Perhaps you might want to check your firewall setup. In some cases, the highest restriction may not allow the forum to "identify" you fully as a member because it cannot access the information it had formerly associated with your computer.

I am not an expert on computers, as you might be able to tell, but perhaps this sharing might help.

Great idea, Attila! Hadn't considered that at all. Will pass it along.

Andreas, many thanks for the full explanation. I'll relay the information to the person involved.
